Chrome Replacement (post March 11 Prod)??

What is taking so long for MINI to come up with a replacement for the owners of brand new 2011 Countrymans with chrome tape hanging off their cars? Should they not have a fix yet - its been almost 4 months!!!?

My question is, if there is no fix as yet, is MINI knowingly selling NEW cars with this faulty chrome problem? And if not, why cannot they get the cars affected into the service department and replace the chrome beltlines? Either way, what the hell???

They can and they are because - - -
  • People don't thoroughly research - they buy cars the way they pick men - it's new, it looks pretty and acts tough, and I want one.
  • People keep buying them.
  • The good still outweighs the bad.
  • They can.
Partial List - MINI Connect, Chrome, Bench Seat, Driver's window, odd colors () . . .

I emailed my Service Manager with a list of the pieces that have failed on Fenton and asked about replacement. He immediately responded by ordering replacements - he appreciated the description because that led directly to the correct matching pieces. No hassle, no issues, parts are ordered.

We'll see what actually comes in and when.

At least my local dealer passed the "doesn't shine on the customer" test...

I posted a thread about this. My CMS was stuck at the VDC because a fix was (supposedly) applied.

Turning in my CM4 today for it's first visit to the dealer (other than for a complementary car wash), my SA and I did a walk around the car (he to document existing damage, me to point out what needs to be done). We noted all the trim strips that were failing, which he documented and added to the work order. He said there's a recall on the CM trim strips. I talked to the Parts Manager, gave him a copy of the WO, and he said he'd get the parts.

My main reason for being there was to get my new right headlight to work with the adaptive option - I'm driving with Marty Feldman eyes right now. Also checking for a possible exhaust leak at the engine.

They said it'd take more than one day to look into the issues, so they comp'd a rental car as an alternative ride. I went in late in the morning for my convenience. I found out that the reason the early-in-the-day slots are all filled is there are MINI loaner cars available then - Dang!

I have been checking our chrome trim since we bought it 4 weeks ago and today I noticed the first signs of shrinkage. I called my dealer and they put me on a list of people waiting for the permanent fix. They weren't surprised and were very nice about it, but not sure when the permanent fix would get to the dealers yet.

That was a generalization. I already got one - 30+ years. It was an impulse decision that seems to have worked out.

FYI - I stopped in at my dealer(Charlotte, NC) yesterday, service gal ordered all new revised trim parts. Apparently they are ready but no estimated arrival date was issued I will post any updates.
