Google Send to Car
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how Google send to car works? I have looked around google maps on my PC and iphone and can't find anything on it. I have found descriptions of what it is supposed to do but have not been able to use it
Thanks!

For me I use it with my MINI Connected App on my iPhone. I look up an address on Google, then hit send to car. I name it and then the next time I'm in Mozart, I can pull it up under the MINI Connected App and hit navigate if I need on screen directions.

Thanks Annette! Do I need to do anything to set it up? I have an iphone and have the mini connected app but do not see the option in Google Maps to send it to the car
This would be a great feature for me

Once you have your destination identified, find the little "Send" envelope icon in the upper left of the page. A window pops up that allows you the option to send to your car. Select "MINI" and enter in the email address associated with your MINI Connected account. Then click the "Send" button.
The next time you initialize the app in your MINI, when you choose the Google Send to Car menu item you should have the message waiting for you. The car's interface will allow you to navigate to the address you sent or dial the phone number associated with the address.
Good luck!

Make sure you have allowed Location Services for the Mini Connected app on your iPhone. Otherwise the Google options are not visible in the menu.
1. I do not see location services for the Mini connected app.
2. Does the Google account account have to match the phone account? I have a very old account for google and has notning to do with anything.

Maybe you should set up a new google account using the same email/password you used on your MINI connected set up app?

No. When you choose Send to Car, it will ask for your MINI Connected account name. You don't even need to be signed in to Google to do it.
My workflow to get it is as follows:
1. Search for an address / POI
2. Click the small arrow to the right of the name and choose "send"
3. There is a car option with a field to enter your MINI Connected username
For all intents and purposes, the iphone IS your car in this instance, so you have to send the info from a desktop to your "car" (the MINI Connected app on the phone).

Snap In No Longer Required
I bought an '11 Mini Countryman in June and the Mini Connected app wouldn't work with the USB cable. I got an error message saying I needed the snap in adapter. The adapter wasn't available at any dealerships I called, so I gave up on the app.
I recently bought an iPhone 4s and saw that Mini app had updated so I thought I would give it another go. I am glad I did!
The Mini Connected app (with a '11 Countryman, iPhone 4s on iOS 5.0.1) now works perfectly. Google Send To Car is going to be one of my favorite uses of the app. Some people posted earlier on how to use the Send To Car feature, but I thought it was worth updating the How To on this thread since Google's interface has changed a little and the specifics of using it in the Mini Connected app can be tricky.
To do this you will need: A Mini Connected account and a Google account
1. Using a computer (it doesn't seem to work on the iOS Maps or mobile Safari apps) log in to Google then browse to Google Maps.
2. Search for a location
3. When you find the location you are looking for, click on the "pin" next to it. Generally these are orange-red upside down arrow markers with a letter in them. There will be a list of them on the left-hand side of the search results and there will be corresponding markers for them on the map. Clicking either worked for me, but if you are using the one from the list, you probably won't need to click it and skip to #4.
4. Once you have clicked the "pin" you will see the option to click on "more" next to the options for "Directions", "Search Nearby", etc. Click on more.
5. A drop down list will appear. Click on Send.
6. A sort of pop up window will appear. Click on Car in the left-hand side of the window
7. Under "Make" choose "MINI" and enter your Mini Connected account name or email address you used to register your Mini account. Both work fine.
8. Click Send. If all goes well, you will get a "sent successfully" notification at the bottom of the window.
9. Get in your car and open the Mini Connected app. Don't connect it just yet.
10. Click on MINI apps in the bottom right of the app screen.
11. Click on the car icon in the upper right screen when the MINI apps window loads.
12. For "Driving Profile" be sure that "Infotainment" is selected. If it's not, you won't be able to get to Send To Car. The good news is that you only need to do this step once unless you change the setting at some point.
13. Connect the phone to the Mini
14. On the car's screen, navigate to Mini Connected
15. Once the two are paired (this may take a few moments - you'll know it worked when you see the apps show up on the screen.
16. Select Google Send To Car
17. Wait for the data to transfer
18. Select the location you want from the list
After that, it's the same as entering a destination in your car's GPS.
Let me know if this helps at all. It may seem like a lot of steps, but I tried to be as specific as I could since I couldn't really find a good place that spelled it out for me. Hopefully this saves many of you from the same frustrations I had!

Sending Maps to a car
Thank you very much for a very good explanation. My problem is that I seem to have an old version of google maps, since I cannot see the option to car..I just can see the option for email...Thanks again.
Does anyone know how to delete addresses from the list of locations in Google Send to Car? I took a trip over the weekend and added a lot of addresses that I will never use again. Is there a way to clean up the list or clear it altogether? I couldn't find a delete option using the Connected interface.
Hey, thanks for the tip, timster! It worked!
