Surf Blue Issue

Just ordered a Surf Blue CM for my wife (S All4 with black roof and black leather seats) But she is undecided about the interior - color line. She wants Surf Blue inside, but hasn't seen a Surf Blue exterior with the Surf Blue color line on the doors and center rail to confirm that they match. The samples of each at the dealership don't really match, and in various photos that have been posted, it appears that the Surf Blues may actually clash. Can anyone comment or post photos to ease my wife's concern? THX!

I don't recall seeing that interior color.

Best bet is to go to miniusa then into the configurator and you'll see all the colors and colorlines available.

Spoken like a true optimist. We all know how accurate the web site is on colors. Worse than the dealer samples. I've seen the Smurf Blue panels and, as I wasn't considering them, did not take notice of the nuances. As Sir Alec is keeping his location a secret, my only suggestion is to widen the area search of dealerships (we went to NJ to look at colors) and hope a Surf Blue comes in. I will say, from looking at the Pure Red panels, MINI has tendency to oversaturate the colors - you'll end up with a brighter inside, but decidedly less "classy" look. Which may work for you.

Good luck!

The surf blue ext is more of a washed out flat paint, in the sun. (see sample pic below)
The blue interior is more of a neon or florescent blue.

What I hate is when they "grey out" certain options when you pick certain exterior colors. If the MINI-USA configurator is supposed to let me build my on own car w/options for my dream MINI, why not let me pick what I want on my car? Grrrrrr...

I actually like the surf blue exterior from some pic's I've seen when the car is in the shade, but after seeing it in person in the sunlight I'm not sure now. As far as the blue interior goes, I think it makes it look like a dune buggy interior. But I digress, what was the question?

I chose the surf blue exterior and really wanted to get the surf blue interior to match, but as you and other have stated, they don't match. I think the people in the color naming department got a little confused on this one .

I used the paint samples available at my Mini dealer, color line samples and an actual surf blue CM that they had at the dealer at the time of my order to make my decision. Under no circumstance of putting the combinations together could I get to a point where I felt comfortable with the two for my car, so I went in a different direction, (polar beige color line with the leather lounge carbon black seats where the beige piping matches the color line).

Unfortunately I haven't been able to see this color combination on a full-scale CM, so it may be a terrific combination, but using the information I had at the time, it just wasn't for me.

Good luck with your choice. Please post pictures if you go with this and let us know what you think.

Tim

I guess I just learned. As the old adage goes; You learn something new everyday. LOL

We haven't ordered ours yet because the body color decision hasn't been decided on by my wife who's car it will be.

So far the only one that she has seen in person and likes is the White/White. Interior, we are most likely going with Gravity Polar Beige, Carbon Black Colorline with Polar Beige door panels.

I have to agree with the above posters about the surf blue color. Living on the water and spending an awful lot of time in and on the water in the summertime, IMO the "Surf Blue" Mini body color ought to be renamed to "SMURF BLUE"

Careful there. I ruffled a couple of feathers by renaming the red Pure Orange. Once I accepted PO as the color, it's actually OK. Annapolis MINI has a white with SB panels in stock, if anyone wants to look. They're not as bright as the PR panels, kind of dull, actually. Passport MINI has a couple of SBs in stock if anyone needs to see one - really not a bad color, but a little flat for my taste.

Also, on the website - if you go through a complete build and then save it as a PDF, the colors are a little better when you open the PDF.

I'm still counting down to ordering mine - and still going with Pure Orange.

I went with the Surf Blue exterior, because I love the way the color looks in person. It's sort of an aquamarine, and I wanted a brighter color for my car this time. I looked at the samples for the blue interior, and it doesn't match at all. Someone was smoking a bit too much in the product team the day they decided on the interior color options, IMO. Oh well, I went with the black interior, and will look into some after market stickers for the dash to give a good pattern to it.

I hear ya there I'm not looking to ruffle any feathers or offend anybody either and as they say in the CIA, "never apologize to anybody -EVER!", but you did say something about [them] having a very strange way with colors. So who's to say where they came up with the name for Surf Blue ? That's all I'm sayin

Well anyway in the future, just remember you heard "Smurf Blue" mentioned by me first

The first CM we test drove was a Surf Blue All4 with Surf Blue interior. While the 2 blues aren't exactly the same, they do not clash. The interior color is a different tone of the exterior color. I really liked the color and wished we could have ordered that interior with the Cosmic Blue(which is a dark shade of a similar tone IMHO). I especially liked the Surf Blue interior with the Piano black.
Definition of Tone vs Shade:
TONES
A Tone is created by adding both White and Black. Any color that is "greyed down" is considered a Tone.
Tones are somehow more pleasing to the eye. They are complex, subtle and sophisticated. They're the best choice for most interior decorating.
A Shade is simply any color with black added.
Shades are deep, powerful and mysterious. They work well in a masculine environment.

Since the CM is my husband's car he made the final choice. I didn't care what color he ended up with as long as it was a MINI .

Surf Blue Issue

Thanks everyone for your input and help.

As of now, we plan to stay with Surf (smurf) Blue exterior and black interior, unless we get lucky and see a CM with blue inside and out.

Thanks again!

Dang! How's the rest of us gonna find out if someone don't do it first? Willl the configurator even let you do blue/blue? Sometime they're kind of picky.
