Help New Owner

Hi I just bought a 2010 midnight black mini cooper AT with 41k for my wife. We've only had it for about a month and she's complaining that when she drives with A/C on the tranny bogs? No check engine lights either. Other issue is the bluetooth that came with the car she says it sounds distorted and people always say her calls are breaking up. I'm not familiar with these issues I'm a diy kinda guy I have a 2005 350z full bolt on and tuned and previously had a 2001 325ci. As for the blue tooth she has a iPhone and I noticed this tray connecting piece in the center console is that supposed to connect to the iPhone through a special adapter? Car was purchased from Carmax and I have the warranty but was wondering if you guys know of any trouble shooting I can do before I take it in for service. Can these cars be programmed to auto door locks as soon as the vehicle starts moving? I appreciate the help.

I can't answer some of your questions, but on my '12 I can program the locks. Actually turned off the feature, as when it's enabled you have to pull the door handle twice to get out. Time to get the manual out..

How funny everyone says the exact same thing about my calls! When I have my windows down even a little call quality is impossible and cuts out like you're indicating, roll the windows up when receiving or making calls. If not that then the Bluetooth antenna is bad or your wife's phone is bad.

I purchased my Mini at Carmax as well, they don't fix nothing before selling there cars!! When people are having issues with their car they sell it to Carmax or Carmax buys them from auctions from banks after repos and you never know what your getting yourself into!

I never received a second license plate for my Mini from Carmax. Ive heard soo many people returning to Carmax with ongoing issues shortly after selling their cars, they flip them quickly! That's why they recommend the Maxcare warranty, that gets you off Carmax's back after something goes wrong!

Door locks can be programmed, it is associated to the key/key fob. To LOCK the normal function is programmed to activate when the vehicle reaches 5 mph. To UNLOCK when the key/key fob is removed.

iPhone/iPod connector Yes, there is an adapter cable that allows the steering wheel controls to interface with the iPhone/iPod - versions matter, check your owner's manual for capability.

Bluetooth Connection - combination of several things, version of phone, location of the BT module located in car to name just the obvious. I have noticed some work really well, and some not so well. You can easily spend hours if not days with DIY diagnostics trying to resolve this.

Prior to your service read over the Owner's Manual, it will point out most of the owner preferences items that can be programmed.

I recommend taking it to a MINI specialist, they will have the interface software to talk to the car and check your electronic modules.

And check out this forum, loads of DYI stuff and lessons learned.

Motor on!

I noticed that my iPhone sound quality was horrible even when playing my iTunes, via the aux jack. When I got my Galaxy S5 a years ago my phone calls and music playback quality is clean, crisp and detailed unlike my iPhone! There was strange noises intermittent breakups on my iPhone, even after replacing my iPhone 3 times do to the call and sound music quality. That was my last iPhone!
