any other west coast week 37ers out there? My Mini is scheduled to be completed the 12th. How long after that does it take to get to the dealer?

giants, it can take as short as a week or as long as a month. It depends how quickly it gets on a boat, if the boat makes any stops, if there are delays getting into ports, and the granddaddy of all delays if the car is damaged in shipment and they attempt repairs at the port.

Everything is confirmed for me.. Week 37... expected to be completed/wrapped up on Monday. I ordered from East Bay Mini in Pleasanton which has a huge wait for the S model... ordered July 23, getting built right NOW! Due to complete Monday Sept 11. Ask MINI says it should take about 23 days to float to California... then it has to truck up here to the Bay Area.. Time to put my Z3 on autotrader and hope for a fairly quick sale!

Basil and boat schedule

From what I have been reading, it seems that the trip from Southampton to Port Huenneme (sp?) is about 23 days, plus time for prep at PH, then transport all the way to Irvine Mini, then I think I will need a mental health day for some motoring!

Hello you beautiful people!!!!

Just called ask Mini and we are out of the paint shop and should be in assembly today.

HHFD - MA told us we'd have it Oct. 23rd but things seem to be moving so fast, we're hoping for much earlier than that. But then again...seems like Minis get bumped up or back on the boats...so there really is NO telling, unless you track it like a dog.

WHAT? Cars getting damaged on the boat? EEKKK!! Is that rare?

All, I have a problem...I thought my car was a girl (Scarlett) but I AM NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY THIS ....I felt 'it' kick a few days ago and I think it's a boy now! Is it possible for a car to change genders on you? I am just distraught...but I will love my baby whatever gender 'it' turns out to be...just wondered if anyone out there had some sage advice for a new mama.

mini names

Aggie - I know what you mean. My Mini will be either Basil or Cybil. I probably won't know until I take posession....

BTW - I wasted some time on google earth, and found both the Mini factory just west of Oxford and the dock in Southampton with lots of Minis waiting to board the ships. Obsessive? Probably....

Sweet. So that means when ours are ready to get on the boat you can 'big brother' the dock and see our Minis? You are so stealth.... lol

hello from week 33!

I hope everyones mini is doing well, and no one has gone completely crazy due to the wait. Hang in there! If you ever get super bored you can learn alot about time/arrival, ships sailing, how to track the ship, and so on from previous production weeks. Im not sure how long it takes to sail to the westcoast from england (im on eastcoast) but i can tell you it takes about 9-10 days sailing from southhampton to NY. If you have any questions i will try to help you all out, feel free to ask!

Welcome Mini Mizer...

Thanks for stopping by and if you had any special tricks you did to get through the days/nights...we'd appreciate them.

I sincerely don't know how people survive this ...it's torture. Pure torture. I suppose this is how it must feel to 'need' drugs? I get a 'hit' by calling ASK MINI, then I read all over NAM, them I email my Hubby to give his a status report on Mini, then I read NAM again....such a cycle.

I guess will go read the other threads as you suggested...at least it will kill some more hours from the wait....

This is a good time to research the mini even more so than you have before buying it. You quickly learn what tends to go bad, and the signs to look for. Any strange noises, and what they might be, so if anything happens to you, you know what it is and dont freak out. You can also find out how to detail your car, which products work really well; or if you are into modding your car, you can research other peoples experiances and/or order the parts.

I have learned a crazy amount of info that i would have never known about the mini if i had not found this website. Like how to open a beer bottle (non-screw off) with your mini without hurting it. Who would have thought?

At the moment, i dont know if anyone has told you all this or if you already know but do NOT count on the OL info and the automated message at 1-(866) ASK-MINI to always be accurate. My OL is always 3-4 days behind the actul process of my mini. So when calling ASK-MINI always talk to a real person, they will look up the current info right then and there and tell you the status of your mini. Sometimes the automated message is a little slow at updating.

Aaaargh

I just got an email from my MA - it looks like Basil will either not have the alloy patina interior or I will have to wait another month. Has anyone else heard of this problem with the alloy patina not being available this month?

Thanks!

My latest update, from "Patrick" at ASKMINI is that my MINI will be done a day early, on the 11th! Woohoo!
Then again, I am not getting alloy patina, that stinks homerwest!
I'm thinking of naming mine "the Empress" because PW/B kinda makes me think of penguins (Emporer/empress)... But it also makes me think of oreo's, so we'll see what she tells me when I pick her up.
Oh, Patrick today was razzing me a little about my current MINI not having a name! It was quite funny. Poor MINI. Maybe her new owner will have better luck at coaxing a name outta her.

Well I talked to another owner who had his Mini delivered to Niello Mini is Sacramento, California. From the timeline he gave me my car might be here October 16 if everything goes right. This is earlier than I expected and would be exstatic if my little Mini came through for me. Anyone else planned out when they expect theirs?

Giants! What great news! I hope it works out that way!

Sally...hubby gave me ANOTHER name for Mini today. Didn't speak to me. Guess we just need to wait until we meet 'it'....I kinda think your baby would like some attitude too. Hope you don't mind Unrelated Auntie Aggie saying that... lol

Mizer! NO WAY! HOW do you open a beer without hurting Mini... I used to be a bartender so I LOVE bar tricks! Do tell!

The metal door latch on the body of the car (not the door), seems to work wonder for people who need to pop the top. I hear the cap or bottle never touches the paint.

Aggie, i found this on another thread somewhere. The orginal one i think i saw said something about 6 different places to open a beer with your mini, but i only remember this one. Im sure you could find it by doing a search. But this goes to show you that you can learn alot from this site about your mini.

Just placed my daily call to ASK MINI...JEFF couldn't find HER with my production number. I joked and said 'maybe she's DONE! ha ha' No, he said. I said do you want the VIN...they could pull it up with that but couldn't tell me WHERE she was! EKKK!

Could I be starting down that BAD Mini path? I hope not.

Guess I will take the advice I have seen on NAM all the time...call and get another person and see what they say. ha ha...

What the???

Aggie - I had the same conversation with the live person at ask mini. They couldn't find my car in the computer, either by production number or VIN. You would think that with all this technology..... I hope Basil did not fall off of the assembly line somewhere! I will try again later today. I still need to sell my old truck, and it would be good to know when Basil will arrive to avoid a gap in vehicle ownership, especially in southern california.

HOMER! HOMER! Great news!

lol...if you can call it that.

I called back (thanks Mini Mizer) and spoke to Jason this time...he got the same error the other customer service person did and he said, don't worry, we have your car. We got an email saying the system might be down until noon. So I'm sorry I can't give you a status report but call back this afternoon and hopefully we can tell you where your Mini is!

I think Basil is fine...whew... YEAH!!

Im glad to hear everything got figured out. These little "hiccups" in the system can freak people out, but dont let it stress you. They tend to sort themselves out pretty quickly.

The biggest one is when the car is waiting at the dock, and people tend to think their car is missing ships, when actually its already onboard a ship that is not WW's. WW is the only shipping company that you can see if your car is onboard the vessel and track across the ocean. (that i know of) But there are other ships that carry mini's across, and seeing how the OL is always slow to update it will still say "awaiting transport" even though the actul car is halfway across the ocean. Also ASK-MINI cannot track the mini once it leaves the docks, for this exact reason, they dont know which shipping company/ship your mini is on. It feels as if you are left in the dark thinking the worst, but dont worry if this happens to you, in most cases everything is fine.
