Mini Tuners. Best Exhausts???

What are the best exhaust to get for a mini. I have an 02 DS MCS, and I was wondering if there was a good exhaust to be noticable different and noisey, but not a freaking Rice rocket. suggestions?

What about pulley reductions on supercharger.. Worth it?
what brands should i look at??

Hey welcome to NAM! There's a separate forum area just for MCS mods! You should check it out! Lots of banter and great source of info!

Lots of good exhaust options for the MCS; Milltek, Magnaflow, M7 has a new one, Webmotorsports has one in the works some folks are testing, it's a big list!

Welcome to NAM!

Tons of exhaust options out there, if just sound is what you want to change no preformance, weight, cost issues then we need to know how you want it to sound. JCW and Millitek have more refined sound and little more volume and the rest get louder, lots of options, if I were you I'd search for the exhaust referance thread, it is in need of some updating but will let you sample the majority of whats on the market. most all of the MINI specific exhaust manufacturers go to great lengths to make sure we don't sound like the fart can crowd.

superchager reduction pulleys are definately worth it. But some things to consider:
Do you plan to autocross?
Will you ever track your MINI?
Are you willing to upgrade belt, injectors and ECU remap?
As boost goes up so do temps, will you plan on upgrading your IC to account for this?

Autocross is a concern for which class with a pulley.

If you track your MINI a smaller reduction % (larger pulley) will keep the oil temps at safer levels.

17 & 19 % pulleys require a new belt and at this point injector and ECU upgrades are comonly reccomended

This is something to consider more with larger reduction % pulleys as there comes a time where more heat is generated from the boost so the overall density of the air entering the head is is lower than with other size pulleys.

If you ever want to change your pulley again be sure to ge the same kind of metal that is used on the superchager drive shaft.

A pulley and exhaust are known to yeild the highest intial gains and are bolt ons. 9more power could be gained in other compnents at a much higher cost and far more labor); many people do an intake when the do a pulley because the intake needs to be removed as part of the pulley install. the hp gains from a CAI or HAI are highly contested, it almost entirely garunteed to add that wonderful supercharger whine to your daily drive though.

Hopefully this a good guide to get you started, I'd say figure out exactly what you want from each mod, then find a product that does just that, then find a local vendor who carries that brand product to sell it to you, many are web based but I'm a big fan of supporting your local shop and building good relations with them and having someone you can trust, even if it costs an extra 5 bucks.

Search around educate yourself, ask some questions learn a little more and decide whats right for you, so that your happier in the long run.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask us questions.

Milltek has great build quality, easy fit, and nice sound - aggressive but not too loud.

I second Larry's comments. I have a Milltek, and it's just what I wanted: free-flowing, more authoritative "bass" sound, slightly louder than stock, but not obnoxious. In doing research on exhausts, I read that many others are much louder, like the Borla, for instance.

Here' the thread you should immerse yourself into. It is filled with information and video/sound clips of many, many MCS exhaust systems:

Not true. All of the commonly used pulleys work fine regardless of metal.

i have to say i have install a lot of millteks. they are a great system. they fit well, look good, and sound good. that would be my first pick, but there are a lot of options out there. feel free to give me a call to talk over the best option to fit your needs.

.. Arguably the nicest exhaust you'll find for the Mini.. (but not the cheapest )

Here's the thread with my quick review..

just had to show it off.......

i like the way the UUC sounds... it is about as pricey as the saclam though

i also really really like my playmini/scorpion, quite frankly im not too concerned about hp gains, but the sound is incredible... quiet on the freeway, and loud around 4-5k rpm, just perfect!

Not saying they don't work, but corrsion of dis-simalar metals hinders removal if you ever wanted to change pulleys in the future say go from a 15% to a 19%. It the same reason I have to get out a rubber mallet to remove an S-lite ever once in a while.

Motor On --

Whenever you deal with aluminum threads or contacts it's a good idea to use Loctite or a similar anti-seize...For wheels Moss Mini sells "Wheel Mates" to keep your aluminum wheels from sticking to the brake rotor without any lubrication. Nice.

Cheers!
