Oh thank you that feels so much better. I felt like I was SCREAMING at everyone. My State (VA) does require a front plate. Gee now I have another reason to call my MA!! You all have a good evening.

VA requires a front plate, but I didn't want any holes drilled in my bumper. This is the perfect solution, and I think it looks good too.
So, if I call my MA tomorrow before the car arrives, I can just tell him not to have holes drilled, and that I'm going to install a different plate holder, and he can still get it past VA inspection?

Colorado requires one too, but I told my MA to NOT, for ANY REASON drill holes in my freaking bumper. I think he got the hint!!

Will my MA ask me about that before I pick my Mini? Also how do get the PW banner smaller. Sorry I can be technology challenged at times.
Neverfifty, if you don't want the stock front license plate bracket attached to your car, tell your MA ASAP!!! They do it at the dealership, so if you don't want it on, they shouldn't put it on. And don't let them give you crap about it being the law in VA for a front plate and that they have to put it on. The law merely states that a license plate must be displayed somewhere around the front of the car - this includes on the dash board. If you don't want the bracket on, that's your choice.

Yup, it's your choice as to if you want the bracket installed or not. See my response above to Neverfifty about the law in VA.

Wow. Lots of education goin' about front license plates. I really don't understand why states vary. We used to for a while and then the Gov. wanted to save money. ??? I would think it would help in instances of crimes, hit and run accidents, etc.

Oh well, at least there are options for that front plate dilemma.

OK...silly question...maybe...

What are the issues with drilling the front bumper? Do they hack it up? I suppose rust could be an issue (not here). And the main one, personal preference. Am I missing something?

It's ugly for starters, and basically some guy comes along with a drill and just sticks holes in and puts on a cheezy UGLY plastic plate holder that usually works loose, breaks or falls off.

The Trinidad's a few hours from arrival! Looks like it safely avoided Beryl. Oh, the excitement is totally taking me over.

Btw, according to the Voyage Details on the WW site, it looks like it'll be docking at two ports in the area--as NY is listed twice. I believe the Patriot did this too? I have a feeling the NEAT is the second location.

COUGH. I think I'm getting sick.

I don't like front plates. But...seeing as they are the law here in Texas and in a bunch of other states...I prefer the drilled-and-centered look to the offset plate holder.

Update from the Road

As many of you know, the wife and I are off on a 3,300-mile road trip, and I'm only checking in intermittently as internet access allows.

Not much to report with the Mini. It is still chilling out on the Emden, waiting to get to Charleston on the 27th. Can't wait...but this road trip has been a great distraction...highly recommended way to pass the Mini waiting time!

However, in the spirit of motoring, today the wife and I are taking the long way from Asheville, NC to Nashville, TN. That's right. Highway 129. We're driving the Tail of the Dragon!

It'll be in a Mustang, not a Mini, but it'll be the dragon all the same!

Tons of pictures HERE, if anyone wants to follow our adventures.

Yup, the Patriot hit two locations in NY too. NEAT was the first location, but the MINIs weren't unloaded there for some reason - they were unloaded at the second place (see my posts in this thread from 6/17). I know BMW has a processing center at NEAT, so I'm a little confused as to why they weren't unloaded there. However, my MA said something about the MINI processing area being "down the road a few minutes" from the dock.

Front plates, Pinstripes, etc...

I told my MA NOT to drill the bumper via phone and e-mail (in VA), and he said he has never drilled his either, and would make sure it wasn't done. There is the GoMiniGo bracket, and also an OEM no-holes front bracket if you end up having to mount a front plate. Either one of those goes on the grill; I kind of like the OEM version better.

Last night I bought red pinstripes from an auto parts store to line my black bonnet stripes with before the ClearBra gets installed! I am seriously fizzed up, but still don't know if I can pick up my car tomorrow or have to wait until after the weekend! It was supposed to have been released to the truck on Wednesday. Wish they had a tracking website for the trucks... :impatient

This forum has been awesome; I'm glad to have gotten onboard even though I was technically a "Week 26er". Am looking forward to seeing all of our MINI pics on here!!!

creseida, Jeff is off today you you can't call him. Did you happen to talk to him yesterday? I thought of it last night just after 8:00pm but he was probably gone. I just wondered if he might have any status. I guess we could call the service manager. I think waiting between the VPC and the dealership has been harder than any of the others. Maybe because we are so close but there is a certain amount of uncertainty.

Ok, today is my MA's day off. Is there someone else I can contact at the dealership to make sure I don't get holes drilled in my bumper?

Just saw your post, Beau... I guess the SM would be the way to go?

I'm going to give it a try....

I agree!!!! Not knowing where my MINI is right now, and the fact that it's so close, is killer.

I called Sterling and left a message for the SM. Hopefully he will call me back and let me know who to speak with. [fingers crossed]

That is awesome! Congrats! This will be a gruelingly long weekend for you though.

I have a question, how old is everyone in PW27SG? I am 23, and appear to be the youngest member of Tarheel Minis, but I know there have to be some others in my age range.

Drew
