Sorry to hear the bad news GBM. :( It is sad that the car just became that way. I hope you can find one that is just as close to yours as you can. Good Luck and keep up updated (I am sure you will).

Wow Kris, big decision but I agree. So glad there's another PW on the lot. Hoping all goes well with the 'lemon' declaration or whatever.

I'm just so unsure on how to go about it. I'm really hoping that the dealership will just say, "Yeah, we'll replace it." But it never works like that, does it? The lemon law here seems to involve a lot of red tape, letters, fees and hearings. What am I getting myself into?

Wow I can't believe all the problems you have been having. Considering the number of problems, and the severity of each of them... not to mention the time frame... you certainly fall into place for the lemon law. Hoping and praying that something works out for you!!!

Nice stubby! What brand is that? It looks really cool!

UPDATE: letter (email actually) has been sent to dealership and called ASK-MINI tonight. MINI will be calling my service department tomorrow. Car still won't go in until Tuesday, so there's not much I can do but wait for further diagnosis. My money's on a 4th transmission. Any bets?

Thanks Kris. I have to be careful though. With the wee stubby and his license plate, WEETINY, Jake might get a complex.

I got it on eBay. The store is called Mango Walk. They have tons, including shark fins.

Hoping the best for the sitch with Mary. Arrrgggh.

Here's the latest update:

My dealership called this afternoon and asked to bump my appointment from tomorrow morning to Wed. afternoon so the regional tech guy "could ride with me and discuss what's going on" with my car. Trust me, he doesn't need to ride with me to hear the noises coming from my car. It's loud enough just idling in the driveway. I'm thinking (being paranoid I'm sure) that he wants to see how I drive a manual tranny.

MINIUSA called me tonight to say that BMW/MINI is now involved with my problem and that they were sending a rep to look at my car. I told Jason that the dealership had called...blah, blah, blah...and he said that yes, the regional guy was the same person he was referring to and that he would be the one to make the decision as to what to do with my car.

So, I guess by Wednesday, I'll have a better idea what's going on I guess.

Hey Kris,

Glad that MINIUSA is involved. I would feel better about the 'big guys' being involved instead of just the dealership.

I'm going with good energy that they will take care of it and do whatever they need to do to 'make it right'.

My advice is to ask...directly...for what YOU want to 'make it right' whether it be a new MINI or ???

Best of luck!

Clayton

So I was bored at work and skimmed through a bunch of the old posts from in here.... man, it brought back so many fond memories from June to now.

Also, I checked on how big we really are... we're officially the 3rd largest "MINI" related thread on NAM. The only threads that are longer than this one are the "April" thread where everyone from April builds talked (so 4x as many people) and the "Show me your Wheels" thread. Not bad! Even if there are only a few of us left checking in anymore. What happend to Christian and NeverFifty and Beauragaurd and all of the others that were regulars on here before? Hmmm....

Good job Kris! Stick to your guns. Keep telling them what you want!

Hey Drew! I always thought we were 'special'. I have often wondered aobut Christian. He dropped off before everyone took delivery. Remember his spreadsheet?

I PMd him a couple of times and nada. I feel sad...like something bad happened to him. I wish someone knew!

I've wondered about the others as well...Doogs is one. At least we have a good core going on! Maybe they'll come back and visit sometime!

Wow! We are quite large in terms of posts!

I hope to see some of the people that have dropped off sometime again. Just pop in a say hi, you know?

I agree Clayton, at least we have a good core going, despite our MINI problems and tribulations.

BTW... I got a new 'mod' for Pi Rho. I'll post pictures once I get them put on.

I did a little search and the last time Doogs posted anywhere on NAM was at the end of October, so it hasn't been too long. But let's hope we hear from him and some of the others soon! It's fun to keep up with everybody.

Kris/GB, I'm really sorry to hear about all your trials and tribulations. Out of all of us, you put the most into your MINI, yet somehow are having the most trouble. It's not fair! Here's hoping you get the answers you want tomorrow.

Clayton already knows about this, but my next mod will officially be blue LEDs in the boot and footwells (check out the thread in the Interior/Exterior Mods section). I'm excited to get these in, as I love the blue and white theme I've got going on Nitro more and more each day. And at some point I will slip in some performance mods. An Alta CAI or a pulley will probably be the first (Clayton, have you installed your CAI yet? I want to know how it goes).

All this and my local MINI club continues to grow. We met up for a Tacky X-mas Lights Tour and dinner last night!

EDIT: This was my 500th post!!!!!

Took me 3 times to get Mary into Reverse this afternoon. First gear is getting tough to get into as well. With any luck, maybe I'll have to get towed to the dealership tomorrow! (isn't it sick that I'm actually hoping to completely break down? I think I'm losing it!)

Hey all! Nice to see the PW27SG spirit out and about!

Chad...can't wait to see you LED mod pics! That one is going on my list. Don't forget to post pics here.

I got my Alta CAI today. But, they sent the intake hose for a MANUAL tranny. I can install it with the stock hose but I waited a MONTH to get this. Long story. It's all good though. A way to stretch out the mod calendar.

As far as pulleys go...DO IT! It is such a kick in the pants! With auto trannies, there's a little 'soft spot' between 1st and 2nd (or 2 and 3) but it ain't there anymore! And the Sport Drive? ZIIIIPPPPP!!!

Sheeb, don't forget to post your mod pics!

Kris, hope your negotiation on the new Mary goes perfectly!

Pulleys are definately the first mod any S should do. Most bang for your buck in my opinion. 15% is a good way to go and goes well with your stock belt. Your butt dyno will be very impressed by the results.

Thanks for all my PW27'ers support! Cross your fingers!

Mary's in the shop and I'm not sure what the outcome is going to be. I did get the distinct impression that replacement wasn't going to happen as they feel (from what they heard) that everything is fixable. But, they have to "tear her down" to see what's going on first. The regional guy thinks it's just the clutch. I really don't think it is (and I DO have an idea what it is), but hey, what do I know? I'm not a mechanic....my husband just works for one.

I asked him about what would happen if they fix it and a month later I'm back here again. I basically got "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

But, like I said, everything's up in the air until they diagnose the problem.

My clutch replacement is scheduled for next Monday, finally. Hopefully I won't continue to have problems after they replace mine, but based on the issues you have been having, I have decided NOT to get a Stage 2 clutch. Both the mechanic and I would be screwed if I had another clutch related problem in the future and they saw an aftermarket part in there.

Kris, hopefully this will be the last time Mary is inside the shop until a service is due!!!

Drew

You make a very good point....unless it's a Dinan clutch. Since that's BMW's own aftermarket company, as long as the dealership installed it, it's warrantied.

Hey everybody, here are pics of the blue LEDs I put in Nitro yesterday. One in the boot and one in each footwell:

What a great mod! And very easy too. I'm not very electrically inclined, but this was super easy. The boot strip was the easiest to connect, as there are connectors on the light. You just pull the connectors off, wrap the wires around the appropiate contacts on the light assembly, and put the connectors back on. The footwell lights required me to strip a small section of each wire leading to the light and connecting the LED wires, then wrapping in electrical tape. The worst of those two was the driver's side, as I have a Euro tray that had to be removed to gain access to the wires. That tray was a pain to get in the first time, so I wasn't looking forward to having to do it again. All in all, I think it took about an hour and a half total. I love the look!! I'll go outside and hit the unlock button on the keyfob just to see the glow . I also plan on putting a blue LED bulb in the overhead light and in each puddle light to completely "blue out" all of the interior lights (minus the gauges, of course). And I've got another minor mod that I'm working on too, that hopefully I'll have pics of tomorrow.

EDIT: Here's what I finished up today (Sunday) -

It's blackout tape cut to fit. I'm holding off on the back emblem, as I started to get a little frustrated w/ my X-acto skills.

WOW! I'm loving the new blue lighting in NITRO!!! Looking good!

The black accents in the MINI emblem look snazzy too. Very nice small, yet, clean mod.

I went out about an hour ago and did a little photo shoot. I uploaded a bunch of resized pics into my gallery, but here is a little teaser shot.

Wow Drew, really cool or do they say now adays, "thats a really sick looking car?" Maybe I got it wrong, I watch American Chopper and think I am way
to old to try to be that cool. But I do really like those blue lights, nice job.
