Production Week 8 Support Group

Production Week 8 Support Group - class enrollment

Got my production week today through ASKMINI...now the fun begins dealing with father time which in someways can be good and other ways bad . Either way I am excited and can hardly wait for it to get here!

I have been a lurker for quite sometime but I am glad I finally took the plunge. So what did I order off the menu....well lets see

06 MCS
Space Blue w/silver roof and caps
Checkmate Package
Premium
Cold
HK sound system
Chrono Pack
Auto Dimming rear view

Come on week 8's and join the fun!

Ask Mini says scheduled for end of production 2/27. Sounds like the key timing issue is when it gets out of the paint shop.

CR/W MCa

B/B Leatherette
DSC
MFSW
Sport seats
chrome int
Anthracite surface and headliner
H/K
Invisishield

Still debating how much window tint to apply.

Paul,

I orderd the invisishield as well....hope it was worth it! I was thinking about tint but I will know for sure once I have it for a few weeks.

I am on the fence about the arm rest....planning on the Bluetooth hands free system and maybe the driving lights but those will all be DIYs...not paying the dealer to do simple work like that.

The invisishield is interesting. The product at my dealer comes up a foot or so above the headlights. I was at another dealer and theirs did not come above the headlight. I don't like the line across the hood, but I hate the many nicks normally experienced. Almost ready to order one of the aftermarket arm rests. The OEM arm rest seems flimsy and is expensive. I debated the chrono pack, but had to draw the line somewhere! Does Ask Mini state your production end date as 2/27? Let me know if you learn yours is out of the paint shop. Paul

I'm in production and scheduled for a completion date of 2/26.

Fully commited to my crazy CR/G convertible build...no turning back!

Paul, sounds like you and I will probably be on the same boat. Here's to good sailing for our MINIs!

I could not resist....I orderd some parts today! I think I better hide them in the closet until the car gets here or I'll just make myself sick looking at parts I can't do anything with!

I orderd the checkered valve stem covers - to go along with my checkmate package duh!
I ordered the glove box organizer - can't have a messy glovebox I guess!
Thr grocery bag holder - don't want trips to the store causing a mess in the boot!
Sun Shade - I have one for all my cars...will help keep the leather cool

Next purchases will be a car cover...don't have a garage plus this is my "play" mode of transportation so it won't be driven everyday and the Bluetooth hands free system...have one installed in my Dodge and I absolutely love it.

Plan on calling ASKMINI tomorrow for an update....will let you all know.

I also ordered the glove box organizer and sun shade. Still debating on the elbow rest..... http://www.autoaccessory4u.com/02micoarmrec.html For $50 it includes a couple of possibly useful "pockets". Would like to know if/when anyone's baby gets out of the paint shop. Seems some reps at Ask Mini might give that level of detail. So have ya'll named your baby yet? It's due in less than a week! Is there a book with suggested Mini names?!

Paint Shop

Former (and Founder of) Week-9'er here. Just called MINI USA this morning and found out I went into production a week early, woo hoo!

They said I'm going into the paint shop tomorrow, so hopefully that bodes well for keeping things on sshedule (like the British say it).

Looking forward to having you folks help me out with ship tracking info.

btw, does anyone else think the Owners Lounge sucks like a big piece of poo? I've been checking it almost daily and it still shows the car as "On Order" even though its being painted tomorrow. Glad I called a human to check.

Yeah, the speed of the Owner's Lounge updates is glacial at best.

I've been avoiding bothering the live humans at 1-866-ASK-MINI with my antsy anticipation, but the automated voice response Vehicle Production Status report has been very helpful. Far more up to date than the Owner's Lounge.

So I called ASKMINI today and talked to a live human....was told that my car has not started the build process yet but should start tomorrow. Completion is still slated for the 27th. Once the car is delivered to the docks, ASKMINI will not be able to provide any more information on the car because at that point the car is the responsibility of the shipper and the dealer...this is what I was told. If this is true we will be able to track our cars by poking around the shippers websites and entering the VIN.

The owners lounge is at least 48 hours behind.....take the words "at least" with a big grain of salt! I have found the lounge to be amusing at times but as far as keeping up-to-date on your car...it sucks donkey A$$

No set name for my MINI as of yet....I have a few ideas but that depends on the sunroof graphic I am trying to get created over at cooperflags.com

Is anyone planning on customized plates?

I'm planning to name mine "Folgore"...it's Italian for "lightning". I'm considering custom plates, but the limit is 6 characters in Texas, and I can't find any way to abbreviate "Folgore" that looks good. I might go for "Porco R" on the plates, or I may just give in and get the standard plates.

I wonder if the cars are scheduled into production by some logic such as shipping location. I need to call and talk to a "live" person tomorrow to get a better update. While the lounge is very weak, the automatic repsonse still does not locate exactly where my baby lies. Less than a week to name my baby....oh the pressure!

Talked to my MA and he said production just started. Looks like best case scenario is completion around the 2/27 date.

I talked to ASKMINI today....my little one has started production as well as of today. They said there probably will not be any further updates until Friday so I will call back then. The factory runs on Saturday as well so maybe it will be in the paint shop around that time.

The humans over at ASKMINI have been fantastic to deal with...actually talked to the guy for like 45 minutes or so and I even learned a few things along the way. I did not know there was no extended warranty on these cars. Of course you can buy a 3rd party extended warranty but I am not sure if I am cool with that. You can boost your maint. warranty to 4 years instead of three so there is some "good" in this.
Another cool thing I learned was that with the AUTO HVAC system...the system will not push heat into the cabin unless the engine is warm which is awesome especially on those cold mornings.

Does it seem like this month is just dragging by?

Not So Fast

Woops, looks like I spoke too soon in thinking I could be part of your little club here Week 8'ers. Spoke with MINI USA this morning and although I started production this week, I'm not scheduled to "complete" production until next Thursday.

Week 9'ers, please forgive my dalliances! I swear it will never happen again....

Spoke with them today....my little one is in the paintshop with the completion date still set at 2/27!

I also got the list of options that are dealer programmed when the car arrives at the dealership.

Daytime Driving Lights
Pathway Lighting
Central Automatic Locking
Selective Unlocking
Automatic Window

Explanations.....just let me know but most of them are pretty easy to figure out.

mnxmini - don't worry, we'll keep the light on for you!

Could you give some details on the default settings of those items ? I assume daytime running light is programmed to be on ? How about the others ?

Welcome to the Week 8 club, Jolly!

The programmable features are all explained in the manual, which you can download from the Owner's Lounge. Pages 47 and 48 have a list of the Vehicle Memory functions, with reference to the pages that explain them in greater detail. There are several more than just the ones listed here.

Note that some dealers are apparently reluctant to enable the "convenience opening mode" for convertibles anymore. That's where you can use the key to open the windows and convertible top.

Details in this thread over on MINI2: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=remote

Talked to Ask Mini and he said I had just gotten into the paint shop yesterday. It did not sound like I would reach assembly until Monday at the earliest. Assuming a couple days for assembly and then a day or two for QC, it sure looks like my baby will miss its 2/27 expected date. Any other week 8's missing the date?

This is the information that I have on the programable features that your dealer will/can square away for you.

This is like a menu and you circle the options that you would like...all options are ACTIVE or NOT ACTIVE

Daytime Driving Lights - the low intensity high beams stay on with the ignition switched on (tail lights off)

Pathway Lighting - 40s, 90s, or 150s - When active, driving lights remain on for selected time after high beam switch is activated momentarily

Central Automatic Locking - automaticaly will lock the doors if speed exceeds 10 MPH

Selective Unlocking - When feature is active the first time that the unlock bottun is pressed, only the driver door unlocks the second press unlocks all door locks

Automatic Window - When unlock button is held down, all the windows and sunroof will open.

I took this word for word from the menu of options I got from my MA

Mine was actually finished a day early. Boarded the LIBERTY yesterday and is off to sea.
