Installling soon on my MINI -- Konig Rewinds with 205/55/15 Kumho ASX tires.

And this is the 1000th reply to Dr Diff's first posting back in 2005.

Are you going for the dark rewinds? Or the all chrome ones? They should make a nice addition to your MINI. I am considering a set for MIB.

The wheels are silver with polished (not chrome) rims--silver to match the roof and mirrors. (from Good-Win Racing)

I forgot to come in and mention when my car came back from the body shop that the dealer-created scratch was gone, everything as good as new!

I haven't done anything since the Aux input install. I think I'll be getting some Euro spec taillights with a clear turn signal though. Not only do I want the yellow turn signal light, but I just know clear will look good on SB!

EDIT: Almost forgot, I'm at about 4300 miles now...

MIB is now over 4K miles. We went with MINICCI on the riverboat run and had a fantastic time. Finally got to run some twisties. Though I would expect nothing like the dragon. Still it is quite satisfying keeping up with MCSes in the twisties. But not so satisfying seeing them walk away at will on the straights.

The one thing my Mini sure does is grab attention... but not always the good kind.

This past saturday I took the Mini to the car wash. When i told the dude at the entrance of the wash the I wanted the "Super Wash" he responded... "Super duper for the Cooper!". Ouch.

they look great! congrats!

tomorrow I call to schedule my first service appt. seems my little problem where it didn't start every time wasn't something that could be fixed by waiting a little longer... it's gotten inconsistant and sometimes the only way to get it to start is to click the starter a undetermined number of times. so far I haven't given up completely and called roadside assistance... but it does start eventually. basically I think I have a dead spot on my starter that is getting bigger. I've had it happen before on other cars but didn't think it was possible with a car this advanced... but nothing I can do... hopefully it will last until the appt. next week. While I'm at it I'm going to have the new oil put in the LSD, have some programming changes and anything else that I can think of that it needs while I'm at it. I'll let everyone know how it works out!

Skeffers, The new shooes look fantastic. Are you getting caps from MINI for them? Keep us informed about those Kuhmos. I was leaning towards Toyo Proxies myself.

My first choice in tires was Avon, but 205/55/15's were not available. The Proxes 4 was my second choice, but I found a very good deal on the Kumho's. Of course, after riding on snow tires for 3 1/2 months(!) any of the all-season tires will bring a better driving experience.

And the caps are from Konig - first I want to place a MINI decal on them.

this afternoon I did a nice, easy mod that I'd been meaning to get around to. I made a hood scoop grille from gutter guard I bought at home depot. I spent a while looking for one from one of the vendors, but couldn't find it. this was easy enough it just doesn't matter

I think it looks great. just barely noticable, but it makes the scoop a little more visible and reminds me of the front of an old db5 or something :D

I just turned 5K yesterday and was thinking of you guys...

I'm trying to decide (and I have about 100-200 miles to decide I figure) if I should rotate the tires or not. I don't plan on getting aftermarket tires at least until the perf run-flats are dead. I hear rotating (front to back, staying on the same side - right) does nothing more than cause them all to go out about the same time versus two at a time. Any thoughts?

Also, the scoop grate - nice. I've been thinking of replaceing all the black plastic mesh with some kind of shiny metal mesh. By all I mean the front and rear bumper areas, and possibly the cowels as well. I'm not sure if I want to go the extent of replaceing the grill slats as well - but I do know I don't want to do the side markers. I figure you can get some nice looking mesh at craft stores and hardware stores for rather cheap - and a bright metal mesh would look nice with the dark SB. I got the idea when I saw the picture of the coach-built MINI by something with an "R" I think. It was black with silver metal mesh grills. Truth is I won't have time to look at doing this until mid to late winter, but I've been thinking of it since before I got mine. Seeing this mesh makes me realize it's basicvally a good idea, and I should force myself to look at doing it sooner.

ROTATE every 5K. This time next year get a set of non-runflats.

MIB has 4,400+ and will hit 4,500 soon. I am planning on doing a rotation, despite that MINI USA suggests not to. With front wheel drive you always want the newer tread on the rear. that is why they say don't rotate. I do not want 2 runflats on the car and 2 non runflats at the same time. I am going to do the rotation soon. I just have to find a tork wrench. I still haven't found out if MIB has unidirectional tires or not. I will do a thorough inspection when I rotate the tires. Hopefully this week end. A friend suggests 3-5K is the best time to rotate. If you have unidirectional (arrows on the side wall) then yes it is simple straight fronts to back. IF not I would bring the rears to the front and then cross the fronts before putting them on the rears. I understand that the side jacking points will lift the hole side at one time. But how to lift from the rear so as to cross them... Might be more difficult on a MCS due to the center exhaust.

Just received survey #5 from Strategic Vision.

I've filled out and mailed only one survey so far.

what's wierd is that I never got any surveys. MINI called me once a few weeks in and I was driving and asked that they call back in a minute so I could hookup my phone headset... no call back and nothing since. I wonder if they are calling my house number... my girlfriend shoots anyone down for any kind of survey... hmmm.

Most outbound call centers (like the ones that do surveys) are computer dialed... as soon as the computer senses that a person picks up, it transfers the call to a real person (so the cost of using an employee's time isn't taken up by a DNA (did not answer)). As soon as a rep hangs up with a person, the next call comes through... they have no control over who they call or if they get to call someone back... Odds are that you won't be called unless they decide to analyze the data and re-run your number through the call list.

I get the feeling that you are one of those evil folks responsible for those 7pm phone calls (during dinner)!!! Stop it!!!
