Latest mod... of sorts

Here is the about the only mod I've done so far to my car. I just got Alpine's latest HU sporting their updated iPod connection. So far, it is worlds better than the old iPod connection, not to mention a bit cheaper.

I was worried that the HU wasn't going to fit in as well as the OEM, but after I got it installed, it seems to be OK. The color is mostly black. Can't do anything with the bright blue buttons.

I got the wiring harness from newministuff.com, so as to preserve my MFSW functionality. Installation was a breeze. I'll eventually get a full review of the HU and iPod connection up on my site @ http://brian.glaeske.name

You could re-do the MINI dash lighting in Blue... (yum - I want to re-do my LED's in blue - but probably won't even try for another two years...)

I'm almost at 6K.

I also am doing the first detail on it in about 1 & 1/2 weeks. I have a friend that swears by Zaino, so we're going to try it on the MINI and see how it turns out. I'd like to try and see if it'll be worth the $100 it'll cost for a kit. It also is coming at a good time as I just this morning found some scratches on the rear bumper . It was annoying to deal with the door stuff from the dealer, but at least that was something that I knew where it happened and they took care of. This one on the bumper happened sometime in the past few days, probably Wednesday in a Wal-Mart parking lot. On the bright side it's not deep like the dealer ones were, so it will hopefully come out with Z-2 or Z-5 or whatever their scratch polish stuff is.

I should be reporting 10K and service one in just a couple more months. we seem to average a little over 1K a month, and the first week in May we'll be driving to Colorado and back. (1800 miles round trip, plus a couple trips between Longmon and Kimball at 140 miles each.) We budgeted the gas portion of the trip for 2500 miles. We also hope to drive to Sandusky Ohio for Cedar Point park this summer, and Washington DC for our anniversary in the fall. At the rate we're going we'll be luck to make 2 years on the maintenance warranty !

4000 miles right now. At this rate that's going to be like 8000 miles a year . I can't believe I have a ride that is more fun to drive than anything I have ever owned and yet it still has less miles than anything else I have owned.

At the rate we are going our warranties will expire well before the covered mileage is exceeded .

Most of my vehicles warranties have expired before the mileage limit was reached. I just think the warranty should be on the mileage of the car, no matter what the period...I mean if it does not have many miles, or less than 36K-48K which most warranties are, then there should not be any problems. I have had the warr expire (time frame wise) & then have a prob. that should be covered since I was 15K under the allowed miles but since the 3 years had elapsed...NO DIBS

While washing my car today, I noticed a couple of small paint chips on the hood. I only have about 3500 miles right now.

My rear window washer doesn't work either. I guess I need to make a trip to Minneapolis for some service.

I'm at 4600 miles - it's been running great. I just took the MCSC to Sebring a few weeks ago for the Phil Wicks MINI Driving Academy, and it was a very cool experience. I've got a 20 minute video from my in-car camcorder going 'round the track with 70 other MINI's -

http://homepage.mac.com/skropp/iMovieTheater154.html

There is also a link on that page of a higher quality version of the video.

I also have a blog entry on the weekend in the "blog" link in my sig - just scroll down a few entries to "Phil Wicks at Sebring"

Here's a pic from the event -

I've reached 2100 miles. No problems except for a squeaky glove box door.

And here's my Rewind wheel with the center cap and MINI decal.

Sad news. My RG MCS is in the body shop. A couple of weeks ago, I was rear ended. No one was hurt, and it resulted in only some minor scratches and the bumper cover was creased.

It should be back with people that love it on Friday.

6080 Miles and MIB still makes me smile!

It is as if the car has gone through a second break in. Shifter and all controls are SO SMOOTH.

Had a problem today. I hit the unlock key and then tried to pop the boot. It wouldn't pop so I lifted the rear seat and pulled the manual release. Then for some strange reason I hit the boot button on the key and presto.. Boot works normal. Must have been a brain fart on my behalf!

I am poised to break 10K very soon. Unfortunately, the OBC seems to be somewhat confused. The average speed is showing as about 9mph. Somewhere around 8K the average speed indicator dropped to 0. Thing is it didn't reset, it's acting like the first 8000 miles were done at 0 miles an hour. I have a feeling that's related to the service indicator currently claiming almost 2K miles to service 1. I plan to contact my Service Advisor next week to see what might be up.

Just over 5000 smiles and counting. Only two problems, both minor ones.

1. Xenon lights do not auto-level every time they are turned on. It has done this from day one and been to the dealer twice with no luck. But, it will auto-level if the switch is in position 2 and the engine is not running. Go figure.

2. Groans coming from the LSD during tight turns. I know that there is a fix by switching to a different oil. My reservation is loosing any of the torque shifting ability of the LSD when making the change in oils. Anyone have experience with this?

Other than that I love my new MCS. It is definitely quicker than my '02 MCS. The LSD is awesome in the winter with studded tires all around. It is almost as good as AWD.

I'll have to take some pictures of my other mods and post them.

Weird - My average speed dropped to .5 mph right around the 7k mark. since i don't particulary care what my average speed is i haven't done anything about it. should hit 8000 this weekend.
