Bought a Flooded Countryman This Week

Hello all! About 6 months ago I sold my 2004 mini cooper and regretted it ever since. I recently decided to slightly upgrade (possibly) and picked up a 2011 Countryman S model. Pretty excited about this but the main catch is... it flooded with about 6 inches of water inside and now does not run. So far I know the FRM module is bad but I’m not sure if this would prevent the car from starting or not. Looking forward to interacting on this sight and gaining some further knowledge on these great cars!

10/31 Update

Hello everyone!

Well I'm back with an update! Not sure how many people are following this / will read this but here we go. Going to attach a ton of pictures that I have and go from there. So the car was crank no start, had spark fuel and compression, the first thing I bought was the interior fuse box (it had obvious water damage). The car is now up and running after getting the $200 JBE shipped off Ebay from the UK. VERY HAPPY WITH THIS RESULT. Now I need to go through and make sure everything else is working mechanically before I worry about putting the interior back together. Obviously going to flush all fluids which I'm not worried about - mainly worried about the electronics. Seems like the bluetooth is not working - I've been told this is a bluetooth module but have not been able to find any information online about what this is / where it's located. My airbag light is currently on which is probably the airbag module by the shifter. I also have a RED light showing a car on jack stands showing on the RPM gauge - I believe this is related to the FRM. Windows do not work and I absolutely have not been able to get the hatch open, also hoping this is related to the FRM. I'm not sure what all the YAW sensor does but my speedometer shows the correct speed so this may be OK. The speedometer and RPM guage are not lighting up which I'm also hoping is related to the FRM. I've been told I may need to replace the shifter assembly but it all seems to be working OK so far. Replacing the floor subs as well.

The next To-Do on my list is definitely going to be the FRM. I attached a picture of it but am not exactly sure what all part numbers I need to match on the one I purchase. I know it will be coded and also am not sure how to do that. I think I could figure it out but the software will be more expensive than having someone do it. Another question I'm running into is that some of the parts on the car say R60 and some are saying R56. I'm thinking maybe this car was produced around the time they switched from R56 to R60? Not sure yet though.

Shout out to @MiniToBe for the helpful pointers he's already given!

Going to be doing a lot of research the next few days and getting some parts ordered and shipped! Any tips / advice or general comments are grealty appreciated. Will be back with another update as I get further into this!

This brings memories lol

The FRM in my case was still communicating on the bench. So I was able to clone it. I think the airbag and shifter lever electronics were also shot. you also need to make sure the AC/window controller did not get water...sometimes the water gets high but then settles lower. just because they marked it at 6" above the carpet, the initial flood might've been higher, so keep that in mind.

I suggest not installing the carpet until all the modules under are taken care of and verified to be working or replaced.

12/27 update

Well Christmas is finally over so I'm back with another update. The interior is completely back together and the car has been running great. I'm working on getting some of the bugs out now. I got a new FRM and it was supposedly coded but I think it was either not coded or coded wrong because my lights are staying on while the car is off, my blinkers randomly go off and my third brake light is consistently on. The windows also do not seem to work 100% correctly. I'm hoping a lot of these issues go away with getting the FRM coded correctly.I got a K+DCAN cable and have some software downloaded. I have not messed with trying to code anything yet because I am inexperienced with this and doing lots of research at the moment. I also currently have airbag and seatbelt warning lights on but I believe they just need reset. Hopefully another update will be coming sometime this week!
