She drowned but recovery on the way

I picked up my new R57 last week from the auction. She arrived on Saturday a little after midnight. Sunday, I started reviving her and so far so good...I found three faulty modules and already ordered two of them.

after some digging, these three modules were damaged. They're on order now.

Even though I ordered the conv. top module, it seems the top operates just fine...luckily.

ISTA/D and ISTA/P on the works. Most of the modules are now programmed and coded. Only audio related modules are not programmed. That will need ICOM connection which I dont have. They still function fine though.

very cool - nicely optioned Cab. Glad to see the resuscitation instead of parting it out.

It all goes back to who buys it...personally, I made a good investment on this car and the damage was surprisingly minimal.

parts will arrive by end of next week...title is still pending insurance com.

can't wait to drive it

Just Curious. What's up with the headlights? Can't tell if it's photoshopped to make it look like angry eyes or if previous owner did some sketchy bodywork.

lol...I actually did it on paint...I wanted to see how it looks. it is better than "surprised" look.

do you know if they sell caps or something to make it like that? or do i need to paint it?

Haha. Haven't seen anything like that before, until I just googled Mini Cooper headlight eylids. Got images like this.

Try this site. They sell decals.<br/>

Yikes, thats scary to see that. Yes those are the H/K amp, Bluetooth module, and the footwell module. Those look pretty bad, I hope the pins and wires are ok. Bring it back to life

Very lucky, based on the conditions of the modules I would figure the wires would be toast.

Congrats on bringing it back to life.

I'd be curious how you plan on getting insurance. Many insurance companies won't insure a salvage title.. This is a salvage title correct, based on the fact it drowned and you got it at auction?

It is salvage title now and it is illegal to drive on the street and cannot be registered. HOWEVER, most if not all states have a process to issue a "reconstructed/rebuilt" title.
since this is not my first rebuilt, the paperwork and where-to-go are all covered. once the state issue a rebuilt title, then you have a legal car and can register it like a normal car and get insurance coverage. I hope that answers the question

Not really I understand the process. I was short on time for my previous post and I should have said rebuilt title. The issue is the same, most insurance companies will avoid rebuilt titles as well, or at least you will have sky high insurance rates on it. Is this a car you plan on keeping, or reselling? Please.. Please.. (and if you were you would probably not say as much).. tell me you are not one of those who whitewashes salvage titled vehicles.. There are a number of ways, including retitling the rebuilt title to a regular one by going through different States...

lol...short and simple answer is no i am not one of those people. I have owned more than 5 rebuilt titled cars and got my brother to buy two salvage cars (hail damage) then rebuild them.

insurance is THE same and should not be any more than a clean title car. to repaint a rebuilt car cost the same as a clean title car.

only difference is when you total the rebuilt car, the insurance may not pay you full retail price on it.

LOL - The OP posts frequently about his rebuilding and fixing these cars and then offers them for sale here. Hardly seems like a whitewash to me. If I was on the east coast I'd take a look at the cars when offered. Probably a good deal to be had.

Agree. The OP is well known on this forum for his builds and sound guidance. He's helped me with his posts and PM's. Hard for me to imagine that he would try to dupe a buyer....and I too would consider purchasing a car that he has worked on.

No offense taken!

Ok, back to work....So I got the FRM installed and programmed. The issue now is the BT and Amp arent working. Although they did not appear in INPA, ISTA/D popped a msg saying the configuration isnt saved in the head unit! I have an extra head unit (radio/cd player) i will swap and see what happens

They drew a water line on the middle of the door. However, when I pulled the FRM, it was damaged from the bottom corner. The Amp and BT modules were dead as seen above. I pulled the JBE (fuse box) and it looked spotless like it was just put in. The other modules under the passenger seat work fine.
