New MINI owner, just bought her last Saturday and couldn’t be happier. It’s a 2008 S. I’ve deciphered it to be an R56/N14 engine? It’s a 6 speed manual. I’m new to turbo cars and so far it’s tons of fun.
I came from the “big dumb Jeep club” and am hoping to find the same camaraderie I had in the Jeep world. So far just lurking around the forum a few days seems to be a great online presence. I’m in The Woodlands Texas if there’s other in the area that meetup for stuff.
Already have to do my first repair as two days after I bought it it started to make the “kazoo noise”, along with a few other things I knew were messed up.
Never the less! Greetings to all and see ya around
Hi and welcome to the NAM family, Chili Texan!
Nice looking R56. It does have the N14 engine, so make sure to change only with 100% synthetic motor oil around every 5000 miles, as the N14 is known to carbon up the intake valves and can cause issues.
Look into the gen 2 area, under stock problems area. It will help you (gen 2 area in general.
Congrats, in stepping into a Mini, for the best street fun car! (in the twisties!)
I had a JKUR and loved it! I also lived in Colorado where I used it every weekend. When I moved down here to Texas it became a gas and tire eating pain on my 45 mile each way commute. Plus down here it’s mostly mud to play in which isn’t my cup of tea.
Very nice JKU and very nice looking MINI by the way!
So ill enjoy my “go kart” as the guys I work with have now dubbed it and keep on keepin on!

Thanks for the info! I’ll be changing the oil this weekend since I can’t guarantee the guy I got it from didn’t just reset the service button. Gotta keep it tip top!
I have found the MINI enthusiasts, like those on the forum are extremely friendly and welcoming. The average MINI you will see on the road however is driven by someone who is more often just buying a MINI for unique transportation. These MINI drivers have great potential to become enthusiasts like you and me. Wave to them when you pass to let them know they are part of a special group.
Welcome to NAM Chili Texan. Congrats on the new mini purchase!
Good looking Chili red car. Make sure you change the fluids and filters as a starting point if unsure of the service history. Also consider purchasing a bluetooth OBD II scanner from eBay and get an app like Torque Pro to scan codes and monitor sensors.
Enjoy your new mini
