I am new to the forums but we have had out 2009 R56 for almost 2 years now. She has needed a lot more work than anticipated but despite that we like her a lot.
A couple of months after we acquired her she developed a misfire that turned out to be a head gasket failure. After getting quotes to repair this I decided to fix it myself which meant it would take considerably longer but cost considerbably less 😀 That was also a chance to refresh the head removing all the carbon, and replace the timing chain and tensioner.
Since then she has needed a new front damper and a new clutch but now I have a fuel level sensor issue that I am hoping to get help with over in the R56 forum.
This is not our first Mini BTW. I bought a 1975 1275cc Mini for my wife as a wedding gift many years ago.
Hi and welcome to NAM, Sword!
2nd gen Minis have some unique issues, but clutch wear is everywhere. Clutches wear out quick, if you keep them depressed during red light stops and also keeping foot on the clutch, while driving. I am not saying you are doing this, but something to think about.
I am happy to read you will jump in and do what needs to be done, when the need arises.
It is so cool that you got your bride a Mini!
The fuel sensor issue may just be a corroded plug, so clean that first, before taking it out.
Again, welcome to the NAM family. There is lots of help in the 2nd gen area for your MCS!

Reason: sheesh, spelling and typing... as usual!

Thanks for the welcome. We bought the Mini more or less expecting to need a clutch. It had 102k miles and no evidence it had had a new clutch so I wasn't surprised to need a replacement at 120k.
I'll certainly try cleaning the plug. I don't want to start pulling the sensors until I can convince myself the fault is likely there.
Welcome to the neighborhood. What part of NC? The Tar Heel Mini Club Is doing it’s annual Minis Slay the Sleeping Dragon in the fall. October I believe. That would be a good time to acquaint yourself with the area. Not as crowded as MOTD, but still a lot of fun. Also MINIPalooza is in the mountains September of this year.
