Greetings from North Carolina

Hi all. After years of working as a European Automotive Technician and working on various Mini Coopers I have finally purchased one. I bought a 2007 R56 CooperS with 72K on the clock. I'm the third owner and the records indicate that the car has been well maintained. It runs strong with a few items taken care of by the PO. He had the clutch/flywheel replaced several months ago as well as the timing chain tensioner and front brake pads/rotors. He pulled the oil pan on the last oil change to look for issues from t-chain guide wear and found none.

However, the Getrag 6 speed has a main shaft bearing making a little noise. I've seen this before on other Getrag trannies and they can go like this for a while with no terrible consequences. I'm searching for a bearing/gasket kit so I can overhaul it myself. Haven't found one yet so any help would be appreciated.

Looking forward to sharing my knowledge and getting some advice for you all when needed.

Oh yeah. I must also mention that I LOVE THIS FREAKKIN CAR!!!

Welcome to NAM! MINIs are great little cars with a lot of potential for performance upgrades, especially if you can do work yourself (which it sounds like you can) and save some $$.

I'd think that one of the many parts vendors who support NAM and the MINI world should have the kit you need to bring the tranny & drive train up to par.

Happy Motoring!

Welcome to NAM! Congratulations on the purchase of your R56. Do you know if the vehicle had the HPFP recall for it? If you shoot me a PM I should be able to get you with one of our top MINI parts specialist to possibly get you the kit that you need.

I need to check on the HP FP recall. Any help with the transmission would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dino

So after a week of driving I can say I'm really loving my Mini! I took a look around at the underside in search of a sharp metallic clunk when pressing the accelerator and found the rear motor mount bolt was not tight! Probably left that way by the shop that did the clutch. Tightened that up and no more clunk.

As far as the trans noise goes it shows up more when cold and goes away when the clutch is depressed. As the trans oil warms up it quiets down. No, it's not a timing chain rattle. I know that sound as I have diagnosed it doing service on these cars. It's definitely in the left most side of he trans. While under the car with it idling in neutral I held a long blade screw driver in various places on the trans while holding the handle end to my ear. Old school stethoscope. I'm not that concerned with it for now.

So, that said, here's a couple pics.

R56

Very nice, I like the stripes. Might add those to my R53.
