new owner from California

Greetings all. I am a newbie to the Mini world as a 2008 S Convertible followed us home today. My wife has been wanting a mini for awhile and we finally found one she liked so it is now in our driveway. I have a few initial questions I will be asking shortly, and I am sure others will be coming as I delve into the Mini world more. I have been working on cars for 45 years, but have to say the newer ones with the computer controls are a new arena so I can use all of the help I can get.

Thanks in advance for everyones help

Thanks for the welcome and we are in Santa Barbara. We are still trying to figure out all of the options, but that is half the fun. Unfortunately it would seem the CD player is dead so we may be looking for a new one shortly. Here are a couple of pics.

Welcome looks like it has a ton of options. If the CD player is dead it's more cost effective to go aftermarket with Ipod connections as the factory radio always lacked the ability to easily work with accessories.

Wow that looks clean. On the CD player you can check in the market place for used ones or let me know if you need a new one. We do have the alpine CD mechanism if just the CD part is not working. It can be transplanted.

Looks great! If you want to know what options it has, plug your vin in here: http://www.bmwvin.com/. Just get an aftermarket unit from a good audio shop in your area. Or, if you're wanting to stay with the stock unit, search www.car-part.com.

Thanks for the link! I was wondering how I was going to get an options list. As for the CD player, it is a low priority right now, but I will be working on it in the future. Ideally I would like to replace with a plug and play, but I am guessing there will be some rewiring unless I go with the exact same model. The current one has no markings on it, but from pics I think it is an Alpine.

You're very welcome and yes, Alpine. Good luck and if you ever need anything be sure to let me know. Cheers!
