Hmmm, here's a little vessel tracking tidbit I just discovered. If your ship is out of range on marine traffic.com, go to the top and click on the vessels tab, and then search by "search all". Your ship will appear here, in range or not. Under the "current position" column, you may have a time/date stamp, even if your ship is not on the map. The Don Juan's time/date is only 8 hours old, if you click on that, it takes you back to the map and drops you off in the ocean where your ship is! In this case, it looks like 8 hours ago, the Don Juan was about 400km east of St. Johns, which sounds about right for a Monday arrival in Halifax. Oh, the brilliance of the internet!

As the ships transmit their position and weather to receivers that have a limited range of maybe 100 miles, I don't understand how maritime traffic would get positional info when they're out of range? Perhaps it's just an estimate based on their planned course and speed?
That's it you found it. It sends you to the last coordinates of your boat on the date/time stamp. No pretty icons of boats or anything, just open blue water. Mouse over the center and you can read the coordinates in the lower left hand corner of the map, copy paste to google maps. Or zoom out several times and you'll get the picture.
I'm not able to find any current or recent position on any ship not within range of the shore. Has anyone else been able to find a position on their ship between the time it leaves the European coast and is <100 miles from the US coast?

My guess is the boats are required to transmit their positions every six hours or so to the "controlling authority", but these reports aren't automatically relayed to the online tracking system. I'm positive that WW is well aware of where all their ships are at all times!
And here's the resulting plot in Google maps:https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msid=...3594,60.205078
I think that makes four in this thread now on the Don Juan! Good company.
My dealer is on Long Island.

Howdy SWJTX! Looks like my Clubman is on the same boat as your MINI. No worries, they will get to us safe 'n sound I'll bet. Murphy already dumped on me;flat on my back recovering from a surgery as we speak, er text! Just hope I can operate the clutch when it arrives. Would hate for the wifey to get to drive him first! Gotta just love all of the drama on this site!
How did you find out? Salesguy provided my info when I discovered it was "in-transit" and asked it if was on the Don Juan (it wasn't). Mine is a Clubman too. Too bad about that surgery stuff. Hope you are able to get off your back to drive it home in spite of Murphy.
Good luck,
Don Juan Update
Thank you Dogwhistle- I was completely frustrated trying to figure out how to figure out where my MCS Convertible (Ice Blue) is- Julep is a second child (I already have Mocha, a 2009 MCCS in Hot chocolate).
Love your BRGII Clubbie. Sweet!

Yesterday my roadster S arrived at Southampton six days after production was completed and according to WWL has been booked on a NYK line roro ship named Sagittarius Leader expected on the 30th with an eta of 10/25 in Port Hueneme, three days longer than normal sailing time.
The WWL website shows a voyage number of 0075-SAG and then says the voyage does not exist when clicked to see the schedule. NYK appears to not currently provide tracking nor scheduling information for their 100+ roro ships that normally distribute Japanese cars throughout the world.
Today a slew of other west coast bound MINIs were also booked on this nonexistant voyage. Tracking sites show the ship moored in Emden, Germany with Emden as its last announced destination. The ship is operated by NYK, managed by Wilhelmsen Malaysia, and came to Germany by way of Japan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, and Greece. Oh joy, an interesting adventure.

took delivery on mine yesterday! Countryman, 2014, blazing red with everything else black. Got it in Germany, but with US specs, so the VIN doesn't seem to match the usa pattern or something. At least the mini-owners lounge on the mini site didn't recognize it. Anyway. hope to learn some things here and contribute when I can.
Don Juan is now back on the map!

Using Dogwhistle's method, looks like the Michigan Highway is almost within range of the US coast.. Probably get a fix by noonish..
Really need webcams on these ships.... I've heard horrible tales how they're packed in like sardines, lashed to the decks and not fed for days... :-)

Mapping the journey
He he...took the google maps thing a step further and plotted the MINI's entire journey, including the drive from NYC port to the BMW VDC! The things I can find to do when I'm sick and have too much time on my hands!

Your MINI's travel buddies
Have any of you tried this yet? When you pull up your WW booking information with your VIN, you also get a Bill of Lading number. If you go back to search and put that Bill of Lading number in and search by this instead, you now get the whole block of MINIs that were manifested with yours and the time they were loaded (mine was sixth to last on the ship, whew!). Looks like mine was in a block of 109 MINIs to be loaded. It also has everybody's VINs, so off to the BWM VIN decoder with the last seven to see what other folks are ordering. A good time waster too, when not building maps! My BoL number was GB1364479, to save you some time.
Here's hoping for last on first off to the VDC!

Arrggh. Only works if you're on WW. K-Line has no such search. Looks like mine is traveling incognito. Must have picked up some Austin Powers moves in the UK.

Dogwhistle,
You take obsessiveness to a whole other level. I love it, man!
Mr. T,
Yes, I'm getting closer, but the hours will drag even more as the ship approaches Baltimore. I'm slowly becoming a basket case of anticipation.
vided,
Get your camera ready for pictures of 'miss red' to share with your '14 MINI brethren.
swjtx,
Traveling incognito, eh? I guess your first contact with your MINI occurs when you hit the VDC.
