My ship is also outside the tracking range. I check each morning and night waiting for to get close enough to start getting pick-up again.

At least it's something to keep me busy while I'm waiting.

How close to the American coast must a ship be before it can be tracked on marinetraffic.com? Anyone know offhand?

Tracking restarted for me within 100 miles. It was less than 1 day from the harbor.

Heres a note from their FAQ page:

"What is the range AIS covers?
Normally, vessels with an AIS receiver connected to an external antenna placed on 15 meters above sea level, will receive AIS information within a range of 15-20 nautical miles. Base stations at a higher elevation, may extend the range up to 40-60 nm, even behind remote mountains, depending on elevation, antenna type, obstacles around antenna and weather conditions. The most important factor for better reception is the elevation of the base station antenna. The higher, the better. We have seen vessels 200 nm away, with a small portable antenna placed on an island mountain on 700 meters altitude! Our base stations cover fully a range of 40 miles and periodically receive information from some more distant vessels. "

The Mini Owners site still says my CM is it at the Distribution Center, the Ask Mini automatic phone system says it is in transit, and my MA told me it was scheduled to load the truck two days ago and arrive at the dealer yesterday. I will post photos ASAP.
Congrats! I got the call I was waiting for today. My toy arrived at dealership today. We are a go for Saturday afternoon delivery. OL updated today to tell me it was at distribution center, Ask Mini had it on the dock In NYC waiting for a vessel. Pictures by Sunday need to paly Saturday

Great information. May I suggest one footnote? For those who place orders in early to mid August please note add 2 weeks of wait time as the plant goes on holiday the last two weeks of August

Wow, some determined people following the progress of their MINIs...I was the same too, but could never find a webcam for the ports of Southampton and Brunswick. Never mind, as I just picked mine up tonight! I'll get a photo in the light tomorrow and repost.
It's not a 2014, but may as well be as I've waited so loooooong.

Mike

Good thing I made the video when I did. It would appear that the configurator is completely different now. Not really a change for the better either...

Congrats to the folks picking up their MINIs today and tomorrow. We will live vicariously through you (provided you post some pics, of course).

I'm in court today, so no time for long responses. I want to extend my congratulations to everyone who's MINI was just placed into production, assigned a ship, or will take delivery this weekend. I will monitor NAM throughout the day for further exciting updates.

Yup, production completed, now waiting to be released to the carrier.

Hmmm, here's a little vessel tracking tidbit I just discovered. If your ship is out of range on marine traffic.com, go to the top and click on the vessels tab, and then search by "search all". Your ship will appear here, in range or not. Under the "current position" column, you may have a time/date stamp, even if your ship is not on the map. The Don Juan's time/date is only 8 hours old, if you click on that, it takes you back to the map and drops you off in the ocean where your ship is! In this case, it looks like 8 hours ago, the Don Juan was about 400km east of St. Johns, which sounds about right for a Monday arrival in Halifax. Oh, the brilliance of the internet!

And with that information, it looks like the Torino is about 500km behind the Don Juan

But not making an extra stop!

And the TORONTO was about 100km south of Coiba Island about three hours ago! Let the tracking fun continue!

Howdy SWJTX! Looks like my Clubman is on the same boat as your MINI. No worries, they will get to us safe 'n sound I'll bet. Murphy already dumped on me;flat on my back recovering from a surgery as we speak, er text! Just hope I can operate the clutch when it arrives. Would hate for the wifey to get to drive him first! Gotta just love all of the drama on this site!

Woohoo! Of course, I had accepted the fact that I wasn't going to get any updates for a week or so -- you have now reignited the obsessive part of my personality now that I know tracking is now possible.

Not that I needed any help reigniting obsessive....
