New Dam Yankee From Maine
New Dam Yankee From Maine
Hi all, just picked up a 2007 Mini this week for the wife. She's been wanting one for a looong time. She drives for her job a lot and needed a low mileage car, her Saab 9-3 was getting up there in miles and years and I finally had enough of her complaining.
Its nothing fancy, just a basic hatchback with the 6-Speed Auto and Paddle Shifters and winter package. Interesting to note about this one it had just under 10,000 miles on it. The used-mini-dealer thinks it has the original factory oil and filter in it. If that's true we plan to give it its first oil change this weekend.
Since there are no official mini dealerships in Maine, and I dislike dealerships anyway, we plan to do our own maintenance. It looks like this site is a great resource for that, very much similar to SteelSoldiers.com for the military vehicle enthusiasts, another site I frequent.
Anywho, the mini scene looks like fun. Its a pleasure to be here.

Nice pick on a low-mile MINI Katahdin. One thing though, when your wife falls in love with her MC, don't get too jealous, it happens all the time. Sometimes such a love affair results in two MINI's in the driveway

Affirmative to Imported Motor Cars of Freeport. They just sell used mini's, its not an official dealership although they do work on them there. Supposedly this one came up from the Pittsburgh area.
We changed the oil today and reset the oil change interval. It took a couple attempts to get the right NAPA filter for the engine, and a trip to Sears for a six-sided 1 1/16th inch socket but we've got the tools and procedure down for next time. This site was a big help in getting that done today.
I'd like to see a second British motor car in the driveway but not a mini! I had wanted to get the MGB restoration done before she bought a new car but she and I didn't see eye to eye on that....I'm hoping this mini and all the Top Gear reruns we've been watching will inspire her to help me get her other British motor car on the road!

Welcome to the forum from the First State, Delaware. I too have a love for old MGBs. I've owned several.
67 is prob the best year for the chrome bumper models IMO. Hope you get it going soon. Looks like lots of parts are in the future from Moss, Victoria British, The Roadster Factory etc. Cheers...
