Getting my 2003 Electric Blue MCS ready for an upcoming assignment in Italy.
Looking to figure out all I can in case of problems along the way as well as meeting fellow enthusiast.
Live in El Cajon, California for now, will be stationed in Naples, Italy later this year.

I got a 2006 mini from my husband for christmas. I know that the only way my husband gets to drive the mini is that he had to take it to the department of motor vehicles for license and to put gas in it. hehe
congrats on being stationed in Italy and good luck on taking the car for a spin..

This actually happens more often than you would think. It's easy to discount the MINI as just another "not so cheap" econobox --until you drive one-- and then all fun breaks loose
.
Your R53 will likely be a somewhat rare sight in Italy, not because it's a MINI, but because gas is so expensive. I've heard that the MINI D (diesel) is a very popular model there along with the standard Cooper.
Enjoy your time in Italy --such a beautiful place!

Bought 2010 S for my wife last year. Liked it so much traded it for a 2011 JCW. Mini's rock! Its my commuter car
. My weekend car would love it in Italy too. 2005 Maserati GT with Larini ehaust. Enjoy Italy. Naples can be a little rough but Sorrento, Isle fo Capri and the coast going south is off the hook. Enjoy.

I will probably pick up a diesel in Italy if I am lucky, who knows. Only downside is I can only bring one back with me. There may be one when I get back in 3 years though.

Look into Pentagon Car Sales. You get a better price overseas with them. I am station at Ramstein in Germany. I just ordered my S convertible. I saved a few thousand dollars and no sales tax. Here is their website: http://pentagoncarsales.com/mini/

Check them out.
Also on the diesel, they drive very nice and the one I rented got 50MPG. One other item the European spec MINI's have the we can't get is AUTOSTART. When you are at a stop light and let off the clutch, in neutral, it stops the engine. When the light turns green press the clutch and it starts. It is so nice to have.

I have a Jetta TDI and Diesel truck. Can't wait for the MINI D to make it here. I want to see one all boosted and see what kind of performance you can get out of it with all that torque. My truck is well over 500HP and 1000 ftlbs or torque. At 4 and 1/2 tons you would be surprised how fast it ccan be when I have the programer on the "Crazy Larry " setting
. When gas hits 5 dollars a gallon next year hopeful the US will get with the diesel program.
