My dealer does a huge clear bra package, but it's like $1400, and the example the MA showed me in the showroom looked awful! You could totally see the line on the bonnet, and the film on the mirror caps had puckers around the bottom edge. I said, "If that's what $1400 gets me, I'll pass."

You can definitely go aftermarket, probably for less, too.

I got that email from MINI USA, too, about a week or so ago. I do need to email my MA about NOT doing the driving lights, since what my dealer wants me to pay vs. what I'd pay by going to another dealer is about a $400 difference! I'd rather spend that $400 on other fun things for my MINI (like a clear bra!)

How cool in Portland that you get your plates when you get your car. In CA, you get temp tags for your windshield until you get your sequentials in the mail in about a month or so. If you want a custom plate, you can order it ahead (I did - PNT SZ), but have to wait for your sequentials to come in so you can trade them in at the DMV for your customs. Seems like a huge waste to me, since I won't use those sequentials at all.

And nobody's getting off the boat if it's going to delay us any more!

I have to work today. Can someone keep an eye on the Panama Canal and see if you can see our boat going through?

Ehi SuperGreg, I haven't been able to track the Turandot since 7/27 . Somehow our fella (perhaps MiniMedic?) was able to find out that Turnadot had departed from Baltimore a few days ago and thet it was in the Chesapeak bay...but it should be in Panama tomorrow.

I noticed that the WW site shows when the ship gets in and out of a port by highlighting the schedule in red.

No clear bra for me...I don't like that stuff at all...and $900,
$1200, $1400 sound like way too much money!

OK, according to the Canal's schedule, we're scheduled to arrive 2200 hours tonight and go through the canal tomorrow morning.

Thanks to all of you for the input on the bra option. I've decided that I'm not going to get one. I don't want to take any chance of messing up the look of the car finish and I will save money to boot!

Nancy I think it is way too expensive from the dealer. You should be able to get it installed for 4-5 hundred. I will install it on my JCW when it arrives in 3 weeks. The clear bra will help prevent having to repaint the lower front end too soon. Cheers

Yah, the dealer is expensive. I think what I will do is see if I can see some cars with the clear bra on to see if I like the look - perhaps contact a local person and see the quality of their work and then perhaps have it done. I know I am taking a chance of getting chips in the meantime and may have to touch up before any bra app.
Thanks for your input

My JCW Clubman's on the Turandot, all of you are lucky! While the rest of you are "Straight'n the curves and flat'n the hills" my little brown skin hula girl will still be surf'in the waves and without me. If I get lucky she might catch the big one and get here to Hawaii a little earlier, so grab your board and catch a wave. Watch out guys she's a hand full! I just hope she doesn't loose her grass skirt along the way.

i'm missing something about the clear bra. my MA showed me a car with one on and i could only tell it was there by drgging my finger nail down the paint. it felt like an extra layer of clear coat almost. the stuff you guys are talking about sounds awful and expensive!

We have a certified clear bra installer here in Eugene,Or that charges $695 for the clear bra and all of the windows tinted. i've had the product before and it works very well. I raced at PIR and it wasn't fazed. You could shoot it with a shotgun. The finished product really depends on the installer. Clear Bra of Oregon, which is located in Portland is very good.

I watched the Panama webcam to catch the Turandot but I ended up watching other vessels.

Talking about window tint...I wasn't even asked by the MA about window tinting, then I thougth: aren't the windows already tinted?

Trying to find out how to track the ship in the Pacific Ocean...

minimedic-
keep in mind that they give you the prod number so you can track yourself, as they are very busy at the dealership (not giving service to lots of other people)
the settings e-mail was built way up in my mind, so i was a little disappointed. also, i have heard it is often not set up for you anyway.

Could be the spray-on type protectant.

Hooray for the Pacific! As we cruise up the coast of Mexico, I say it's time for tequila shots and margaritas!

Hi Stephie's Mini,
Good info- thanks. Have you had the clear bra put on your mini? I would love to see some pictures.

We don't have it on the mini yet, but we plan on using the venture shield product. Used it for my STI. You can check out invisiblepatterns.com and they have multiple options for covering the mini. We'll go for the whole hood option (Part Number: IPMN005HF)
