By the way, does anybody have a link to a website that tracks ships as they cross the Atlantic? The website http://www.sailwx.info doesn't track the ship "Toronto" at all.

Thanks...

Unless the Toronto starts broadcasting weather reports you will not be able to track it across the ocean.

Steveski,

Thanks for the information! The "Toronto" is scheduled to go to New York first, then through the Panama Canal. Will I be able to start tracking it again when it gets near New York? It would also be fun to track it through the Panama Canal too!

I used this site to track the ship from Southampton through the English Channel before I lost it last night.

Mine is on the same exact ship actually. I tracked it while in port, but lost it after it left the boundaries of the http://www.ais-live.co.uk/AIS%20Live...uthampton.html tracking website.

Which dealer are you picking yours up from? I ordered mine from MINI of Mountain View.

The only information that I can find on the "Toronto's" location in the Atlantic is about 2 years old. I have no idea how to track it other than that website you linked. Hopefully someone will have some idea of how track it elsewhere.

Thanks to everyone who provided all the information to put this thread together by the way!

Yeah that site should work once it gets close enough to land.

I used this site, it's looks very similar, here's the direct link for the Toronto http://marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdet...MMSI=232664000

If one REALLY has some time and if one can figure out exactly when the ship that is carrying your Mini will be going thru the Panama Canal then one can see it with these web cameras at the locks...

Based on the discussion here, some of you may have been in the same production week as me (born dates of 7/26 through 8/1). Miniac81 and I would welcome any appropriate company in our Week 31 support group at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ort-group.html so we can commiserate until delivery and beyond.

Regards,

M

As a member of the Week 34, 2009 production week group, we found some information we would like to pass along.

Halifax webcam
Halifax, NS is the first stop for your car carrier on its way to dropping off cars on the east coast. You can see your ship arrive and leave on two webcams: "Chebucto Head" and "Harbour Entrance"

http://www.novascotiawebcams.com/#axzz11JkjmGM0

Halifax ship schedule
http://www.portarrivals.com/list.asp...6340&t=HALIFAX

New York/New Jersey ship arrival schedule (I couldn't get it to load properly on Mozilla Firefox. I had to use Internet Explorer)
http://www.firstnynj.com/

Panama Canal Atlantic side arrival schedule (this schedule is now located in a secured area of the website that requires password access)
It is arranged by ETA times. On the right are two columns. One is labeled, "First Lock Time," and, "Depart Last Lock." You can use this information to narrow down the time you can expect to see your ship on the lock webcams.

http://www.pancanal.com/evtms-rpts/agents/SY5700RP.pdf

In his post below, RayRatt talks about several tracking sites which you have to sign up for. One site I like is, VesselTracker.com

http://www.vesseltracker.com/en/Home.html

If you sign up for the Free Account, the data is only delayed by two hours. Otherwise, the data will be 24 hours delayed if you don't sign up. I like to use this site to track a ship going through the Panama Canal.

On the WW ship schedule, you will notice a date for Manzanillo

http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppSche...pe=generatePDF

This is the date that the ship is scheduled to arrive at the Atlantic side of Panama near the city of Colon. On this date, you can log onto Vesseltracker.com and search for your ship in the Panama region. Your ship will stay overnight near Colon, and it will go through the Panama Canal the next day.

http://www.vesseltracker.com/en/Area/panama/Map.html

Believe me, you will be so excited and relived to see your ship on any map since it disappeared off the English Channel two weeks prior.

We had a viewing party for the Week 34 ship, Porgy, as it sailed through the Panama Canal. Here are two pictures which our members captured.

Gatun Locks

Mira flores Locks

Port of Hueneme vessel schedule

Look for the link to "Current Vessel Schedule" on this site.

The Week 34 (2009) Support Group that UAL_Kingpin (see above) and I were members of utilized most of the information presented in this thread. For anyone serious (crazy?) enough to want to follow their MINI through the entire process, that information is a gold mine. We ran into some problems (our ship, the Porgy, was brand new and not yet signed up with the sail-wx weather tracking site so we could not track her very far after leaving Southampton).

Watching the ships on the various live web cams at various ports and the Panama Canal was fun. Tracking the ship on the live AIS tracking sites was also fun, but in a couple cases you must sign up for a free membership to see ship locations that are only an hour behind (versus a 24-hour delay otherwise). The timestamps on the AIS tracking system at the Panama Canal are not local time - probably Universal time.

Besides the marinetraffic.com site for watching ships travel the last 300 miles to Port Hueneme (Los Angeles), you might try the Shine Micro AIS tracking site (again, you need a free membership to see reasonably current data):

http://shinemicro.com/Live.asp?regio...est%20Overview

That map is "busy" and shows ocean depths and the military ammunition disposal sites. Each of the AIS tracking sites has their pros and cons.

One thing I personally learned from tracking my MINI is that the production dates are probably established based on when the ships will be docked at Southampton. They try to not have to store a lot of cars at the Oxford factory, so production is planned so the cars are shipped out as fast as possible. For example, my MINI was scheduled to be completed on August 27th... from checking the schedules, I knew the next ship to California was arriving (and leaving) the next day. Since people said it takes 36 hours for a MINI to reach the Southampton dock after passing the final QC inspections, I was resigned to the fact that I would have to wait another two weeks for the next ship to the west coast. By watching the Wallenius Wilhelmsen cargo tracking site, I could tell they loaded cars onto the ship non-stop for eight hours. Not seeing my VIN on that list of cars loaded on the ship (let alone cars that had been received at the dock), I gave up hope since the ship was scheduled to sail in 2-1/2 hours. But, I was in for a surprise. The departure time was moved back and a couple hours later I was pleased to see that my car (and six others) had been loaded on the ship. Apparently, they hauled the seven late-production cars down to the dock on a transport truck. So, don't give up hope until your ship sails.

It should be noted that another member of the Week 34 group missed his boat even though the departure time was changed twice. His car got held up in the paint shop for over 4 days (partly due to the Sunday factory shutdown). Fortunately, his car was destined for the east coast and thus he only had to wait one week for the next ship.

That is still true. My MINI was off-loaded at Port Hueneme and then the ship continued on its journey to Tacoma Washington - just a few miles from my dealership! My MINI took another week to get there by transport truck.

Haven't been able to find any further details on the work hours/schedule of the Greer S.C. VDC, but when speaking to my MA this afternoon he mentioned that this VDC isn't open on weekends.

Does anyone else have further info?

My MINI has been made!!! I'm so excited. I don't even have the nursery (garage) ready yet! I'm still trying to decide between Zaino and Prima products for my winter waxing! Hooray, my MINI will be here soon!

I've tried researching this, but if you're car is showing up incorrectly for the first day or so of ordering, is this typical? Wrong color, specifically.

I haven't logged in, but it's showing the wrong color and giving me the "re-check" option. Should I ignore that and just log in, or is something really wrong?

Don't worry about it. Your dealer had a car on order for itself to sell, but he substituted your order for his order. The information will be updated in time.

Hmm. Thanks. I guess that makes sense, Would a pre-determined slot to be arrange for faster production? (filling in the car info once an order is placed?) Or he literally swapped orders. I called MINI just to check with it, they quoted it as an order without a production date.

Oh well, in due time I should know. So excited, and I cannot wait

Thanks for this great thread. I have a 2010 Clubman S on order with a Charleston port of entry. My Vehicle Inquiry report says my "Transportation Flag" is T. Does anyone know what this means?

Our new MINI is still at the dock waiting on a boat ride over to the States. I'm thinking it will be on the Elektra which is due in to Southampton on Monday. Anyone thinking they are going to be on this ship?

I guess mine will miss that one. He's scheduled to finish QA Monday, so I assume they can get him on something closer to the end of this week or maybe the week of the 14th.

Congrats to those folks who have their car on the way...

Well? Have you guys checked your VIN numbers to see if they're on it? I just looked and it showed the Elektra pulling out of Southampton.

Unfortunately, mine was handed over for transport today, but I suppose they didn't get it down there fast enough to make it. I guess they'll send it down over the next couple of days and then put it on the Doc Carlos which leaves 15th.
