hfs3,

That so stinks. I hate to hear this. I'm glad it didn't take out the motor or radiator. And I'm glad that Zim lives on and is motoring nicely.

OMG what a nightmare!!

I'm glad Zim (and you!) are OK now, but ohhhhh that is SO painful!

It had to be 5" in diameter, not including the u-bracket. The car in front of me and the one behind me also found this little road gem. Both lost all their engine oil (one lost radiator fluid), and likely their engines. For some reason, I elected to drive over it with my passenger front tire (was in the middle lane with traffic on both sides and the assembly was in the middle of that lane). Immediately, the TPMS light comes on and the front end starts shaking, so I pulled over as quickly as I could. The tire, rim, tie rod end, control arm, strut, strut bearing, rocker panel cover, rocker panel, and strut tower top all took hits. If it weren't for the Craven STDs, the strut tower top would have needed replacement (note: though the new towers are stronger, spend the money and get the STDs).

Fortunately all ended well, as I got the car back last Saturday - and it's 100% again! Further downsides were the $500 deductible I had to pay since the truck that deposited that little road gem was long gone. Additionally, I had the pleasure of forking over another $50 to file my appeal of the insurance surcharge (my insurance company strongly urged me to do so).

Zim lives!

Oh gosh I have been in such a whirlwind since I got back, I forgot to tell y'all!

Chicago was fabulous! I was there on business, so we only had one afternoon/evening to explore downtown. I stayed in Rosemont, and took the blue line into the city. Made me miss living in Boston, I always loved taking the train! (I know, I am easily amused...lol!)

My friend and her husband have family there, so they knew cool things to do. We walked the Magnificent Mile, had lunch at Billy Goat Tavern (famous for SNL's "cheeseborger cheeseborger cheeseborger! No Pepsi! coke! No fries! cheeps!") Where I got hit on by the guy flippin burgers...he said he was going to move to NC. At least I got free refills on all our drinks! Gotta work it any way you can!

We then took a 90 minute boat tour on the river, and went out on Lake Michigan along the coast. It was totally gorgeous! I will post some pics!

We walked some more, and then landed at Gino's East for dinner. Waited about a half hour in line and had the most fabulous deep dish pizza EVAH!

By that time, our feet were killing us, so we hopped on the train back to Rosemont. Unfortunately, we didn't get down to the Hancock building, but I am very pleased with our little mini-tour! I fell in love with the city. All the architecture is so gorgeous, and there's just so much to see!

Lady G....

It sounds like you had a great time in Chicago (even though it was intermixed with work). Chicago is one of those places where you can't get bored. What a place...

We stayed about three blocks north of the river. We walked everywhere and like you we had a great time. I loved the city - the architecture was gorgeous. I figure one day we'll head back and do more adventures.

Who in the hell would go to Florida in July? That's crazy.... I mean only nutso's would go to Florida. Oh wait... That's me....

Think of it this way - we could meet (with reyd1) and grab dinner away from the tourist part of O'town.

BTW, what industry do you work in, Lady G?

Well THAT would make the trip worth it FOR SURE!

I have 2 jobs right now. My FT job is with a bank as a financial specialist (been in banking for many years), and my PT job (which is approaching FT status soon...WAHOO!) is in the papercrafting/scrapbooking/publishing industry. That is where my true passion lies. I love to create!

Very cool. I started in the banking industry a few years ago, hmmm 1985. Yeah, 1985. Darn that's a long time. The past 18 years I've working with a software company providing core software to banks. It's fun but it's just a job. I wish I knew what my passion was. I believe it to be developmental psychology, but it's hard to get into the field with my background and education.

My wife loves paper and everything about it. We actually have two small printing presses (if that's what you call them) in the garage. I think for her she loves the medium but not sure what she wants to do. I guess there isn't a burning desire just a love for it.

Well, if you come down here next summer - let me know. We can meet and do dinner somewhere.

I know all about that "just a job".

I never knew what my passion was till I found it. I finally know what that saying means. "Find a job that you love, and never work a day of your life." When I am creating, the time just flies by, and before I know it, it's 2am and I have to go to sleep! I'm very blessed to have found a way to get paid for doing what I love. Cannot wait for the day I can say bye-bye to banking!

How cool that you have presses in your garage!! Sounds like your wife and I would get along very well!

I will definitely let y'all know when I'm down there. I'm already looking forward to it!

In a way, I envy you. I know I'm not supposed to but I would love to know what I'm supposed to do. There's this cloud hanging over my head that says "whatcha gonna be when you grow up"

Funny thing is the presses are still in the boxes they came in.

The boss loves everything about paper. She is big into card making. She joined some club where she buy her supplies. It's kinda like Avon and the likes, where you have get togethers to promote the products. She was never into that much but she joined to purchase her supplies. She's also big into paper art and making paper - although she has never done any of it. Yet.

On the 30th, met up with a few other MINI owners at Sonics on International drive. Had a blast.

Joe, Have you visited the Mini of orlando club site yet? Their next meet at Sonics is on the 13th of Aug.

Reyd....

I've been out there one or twice.... but I gotta tell ya I enjoy talking to family members out here. I went to a meet off of I-Drive and felt kinda, um, like an outcast. It was somewhat uncomfortable. I may try to go out on the 13th... We'll wait and see.

How's your MINI? So far, Elphie has been a blast. Love it....

Joe,

So far our MINI is running like a champ! Saw a PW/B Clubman at my community in Daniels Landing today and wondered if Elphie was stalking us. I guess I can understand feeling like an outcast at some meets. The family here is a lot more inviting and supportive.

Reyd...

You guys live at Daniels? Cool. I'm up off of East Crown on the northeast side of town. I'm in your area alot (not you neighborhood though). I seem to be going to the new mall a lot. And that's bad...

Let me know if you go out to Sonic on the 13th. I try to meet up with you and check out the new MINI. And see how warm the reception is (wow, that sounds bad... )

Joe

Has anyone else noticed their 3rd brake light filling up with water? Doing my routine check, I saw condensation - drops or water - inside the lens. Dealer said it was the 2nd one they'd seen and would fix it for me. Also have telltale signs of the dreaded scoop melt, can see the a little dip in the center getting deeper. Ah well, the dealer will handle that though a carbon fiber JCW scoop would look sweet on the dark silver bonnet...

Nope haven't noticed that. Mine hasn't gotten wet all that often though. It's been very dry here, plus I have a garage.

I'd like to see a picture of this "scoop melt" problem I've heard about. Haven't noticed it on mine??
