I don't really know all the details, my hubby has been working on it with the dealer. We are selling it private party, so our dealer told us if we sold it within a certain number of days (I think 30... not sure) of picking up my MINI that we can do the tax credit thing... Not sure if it's a Washington State thing I would call and ask your dealer.

It is a state sales tax thing. Basically, when you trade a car and then buy one you pay sales tax on the NET purchase price. When you sell a car privately you lose the ability to reduce the net sales price so you wind up paying sales tax on the full purchase. Some state allow you the offset if you sell privately within a certain time frame.

I don't know where all it DOES apply, but Colorado is somewhere that it doesn't.

Talked to my MA... judging by how long it's been taking cars to reach NWMINI, it should be in, and ready for pickup the day I arrive in Seattle. What perfect timing!
Definitly! What part of Seattle are you moving too?

not sure yet... I'm staying in my companies corporate apartment until August. Hopefully I'll find something between early July and August 1st...

I'm thinking Queen Anne, Fremont, Belltown, or anywhere around or in between.

(just graduated from college... Penn State)

Very cool! Are you working with a Relo company or a real estate agent?

I live in Maple Valley about 45 minutes (give or take with traffic) south of Seattle.

This is a state-by-state sales tax rebate program. I used it several times in Missouri, where I would buy a new car, later sell my used car myself, then apply to the state gummit for a sales tax rebate based on the sales price of the old car. Don't know if it still exists there.

Of course, you have to take the time to sell the old car yourself. Overall, it pays handsomely over doing a trade-in. If, of course, it's worth something.

Thanks for the info, SPF and MINIMalistnam. I understand now.

I agree that selling the car outright usually generates a higher price, but, I'll tell ya, its very bad out there right now. I have been advertising my truck and driving around with for sale signs on it for two weeks and have gotten very little interest. The few people who have responded are offering less than the dealer at this point. And his trade offer was very low.

Forgetting about my own situation, I really fear for people who have these big vehicles financed right now. If they were to be in an accident, the insurance companies are sure to offer these ridculous values in total loss situations which will leave a lot of people upside down in their cars. Anyone who has an SUV or other gas guzzler that is financed should call their auto insurer and add Loan or Lease Gap Coverage immediately!! Just my 2 cents.

Update on Altoid, He entered the Paint Shop today to get his shine on, came out lookin' sharp for the ladies. He's a little embarrassed though because he is missing his bits and pieces, they are being installed as we speak. He should be at 100% completion tomorrow, getting an A+ Star on his quality inspection....i mean why wouldn't he?

He is looking forward to his cruise over here, partying, drinking, eating, taking a dip in the hot tube with the lovely Nugget haha.

God knows. It seems like every time I call I get a different answer on what week I'm scheduled for but when I ask why it keeps getting changed nobody really has a clue. The latest 'excuse' has been something to do with each dealer getting a JCW demo which obviously need to be built and these productions are pushing customer cars down the line. Silly me for thinking a customer who came in nearly 2 months ago now to place their order should take precedence over the dealers demo car. God forbid they have to wait an extra week.

so i cruised through the forums a bit, it seems like people in the week 20 thread are starting to get their MINI's. Thats three weeks ahead of use, there for we could be down to 3 weeks before we start receiving also :-)

i am still thinking a month though, just so i'm not disappointed.

Called this morning and Jonathan said my Clubman was in the body shop. Still scheduled for completion by Friday. I'm still hoping I can get on the Asian Chorus leaving port on 6/11. It can take up to 7 days to get from the factory and onto the boat, but the rep said it is usually less.

If you download Google Earth and find the BMW Mini factory in Oxford, you can see hundreds of little minis sitting outside waiting to be shipped off. It's pretty funny lol

I didn't know you could get such detailed information from the automated number. All I get is that the car is in production and the scheduled completion date.
