All Aboard TURANDOT! Feb 11, 2008

Since my Mini has been in Southampton, I've been scheduled for the Aida, Asian Emperor and now the Turandot.

Calling out to all others scheduled to be on this ship....

We also "missed" the Asian Emperor and are now scheduled for the Turandot.

I'm hoping to be there, but I'm highly skeptical. I'm still 'scheduled for production'. My MA said it should be done this week tho.

We'll keep our fingers crossed for everyone close to make it on this ship. There is nothing more painful than sitting at the dock waiving to other Mini's as they sail away to the USA.

Yup, I missed the boat, too My MINI is still in "received at terminal" status. When are they going to load the vehicles?
By the way, I have a question about engiine and transmission being built in different countries such as Brazil and France built Engine and Japan and Germany built trasmission. Are they all pretty much same or issues with quality from country to country?

They will load when the ship arrives in the UK - likely on Monday 2/11. On the WW site you can click on the voyage and you can see the itinerary.

In terms of quality - IMO you are really looking to the parent for the quality - they have already done that work for you and are providing a complete and comprehensive product. There could always be issues somewhere but I like to put my trust in BMW/Mini that they have the solid QC regardless of where each component is manufactured. It's not unlike your computer, or your iPod for that matter - they are made of components from all over but assembled and backed by the manufacturer. I don't think that you have anything to worry about but that is just me.

I was also scheduled for the Asian Emperor and got bumped for the Turandot , did you guys check the dates though. The AE arrives a week before the Turandot, so we're left waiting that sucks.

For some of us it really stinks considering that we were at the Southampton dock around Feb 3--which was 3-4 days to process--and still missed that boat. An extra week--yuk!

The Turandot has just left Zeebrugge on its way to Southampton! (not that I've been checking....!)

Funny. And not that I didn't also check and get curious to see where Zeebrrugge was in relationship to Southampton. Not too far!

The ship just left Zeebrugge in Belgium. It will arrive in Southampton, England tomorrow. That's where our cars are eagerly waiting to be loaded.

At the top of the First Gear forum is a "Sticky" for "Tracking your Mini". All the information you need should be there.

Here is the link: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=70301

The ship is the Turandot. Her call sign is SGBA The Voyage is: ED806-TUR The Booking Number is: GBSOU610235 You can click on the Voyage number to see the current status of the ship.

My mini just went into awaiting transport a few days ago. There is still no tracking info at the cargo tracking website. Is there a chance I will make the Turandot ship?

Similar question here, mine went into the "at the port awaiting a vessel" step or something Friday iirc, but the VIN still doesn't show up on the tracking site. What are the odds that I'll have to wait for the next ship?

From what we have been seeing, you can count on a week from the time your car hits the dock. There is paperwork and customs which seems to delay things.

However, one never knows until the ship has sailed and you can check the staus. If it says "Loaded on vessel" then you've made it. Otherwise.... the next ship is due out on the 18th.

thanks for the info. I'll be watching.
What is the average time it takes to cross the pond? I ordered the web spokes with high performance tires. I live in Salt Lake City so I'm trying to miss the snow season as much as possible. Any information on time frames would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again..

It takes 20 to 21 days to go through the Panama Canal. The Turandot is scheduled to arrive at Oxnard on March 2nd.

I don't know how long your car will take to get to you. My MA said that it takes 10 days to reach Portland after arriving at the facility in Oxnard.

At 6:00pm PST on Sunday evening (Feb. 10) the Turandot is just passing the White Cliffs of Dover:

Here is another cool site to track the ship's progress while in waters near England:
http://www.shipais.com/showship.php?mmsi=265287000

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that our status changes tomorrow!

Chubby came last year on the Turandot. Waiting for it to get through the Panama Canal was the worst wait. I was tracking it every day. Good luck to you all!

Thanks Vintage and Jeremy. That site is really good to track the ship. So I just typed Turandot from the search field and it will just display. My MINI at the dock since last Friday (02/08/08). I hope she can make it on that ship.
