All Aboard TURANDOT! Feb 11, 2008
Hi sdougherty1,
That sounds good to me!
You probably won't be carrying around those big bad Mc speakers in your Mini, though!
I would love to see your car! According to Jarid, it takes 10 days to reach Portland after arriving in Oxnard, so we should be seeing them here about the 12th. Of course then the dealer will need them for a few days....
It looks like the Turandot is approaching the Carribbean today!
At it's current pace it should be passing between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic about 6:00 pm this evening (local time). wais:www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shipp...html?call=SGBA

Port Question
Is anyone having any accessories installed @ the port/receiving facility? I'm not sure if some extras, like stripes or driving lights for example, are installed/applied at the port or not - and how long it takes, etc.
Sunday the 24th
It appears that the Turandot will be traversing the Panama Canal on Sunday the 24th. She is scheduled to be the 12th vessel through that day.
According to this site: http://boydsteamship.com/traffic_&_booking_slots.htm she will be arriving at the canal on Friday the 22nd and will then cool her heels for a couple of days due to a heavy volume of traffic.

First thought, Ah that's good news, until I got info from VintageMac. And second thought, that's not a good news. My MA said that once it gets to the port (Oxnard), it could take 2-5 days to dealership. So hopefully two more weeks.....

The Asian Emperor left a week before the Turandot. They also had a two day delay at the canal before going through.
The people who are tracking that ship seem to think it will be to Oxnard on schedule. So the shipping company may anticipate the delays and have the schedule padded...?

It's possible. I did a rough estimate from Google Maps and it looks like Southampton to Panama is 5100 miles and Panama to Pt. Hueneme is about 3400 miles. Since it looks like the Turandot will reach Panama in 10.5 days, it will take 7 more days to reach Pt Hueneme after it transits the canal. So if it gets through early Sunday it may still get here by March 2nd.
Our minis will have traveled 8500 miles which is like going 1/3 of the way around the world.

My MCS is also a on the Turandot. I just joined NAM and learned how to track the ship. I'm not sure that was a good thing. I will be checking all the time now. Its kinda like being a kid and tracking Santa on the Christmas Eve.
I just noticed that myself. Since the canal runs 24/7 I assume the Turandot will make it through sometime tomorrow morning. Then we can just count off 7 more days until it reaches Pt. Hueneme.
I have found the technical specifications for the Turandot. Try the following link to learn about the ship your Mini is on.

It can be as short as two or three days for those of us with dealers close to the VDC and nothing to be done to the car at the VDC. I've heard that cars that are sold get preference. But then you sometimes see people posting about unexplained long waits at the VDC.
You guys have probably seen this but just want to share some info.

Are minis becoming more popular here? Has there been an increase in imports? I seem to notice more of them zipping around than before. I wonder how many the Rassmusson Dealership up here in Portland sell per month.
Before I ordered mine, I checked e-Bay and tracked them. The mini seems to hold its value pretty well, but I wondered why there were so many almost new, low-mileage minis available.
