Newbie from Raleigh NC
Just wanted to introduce myself here and give a little backround about myself.
I've always been interested in the Mini's since I've borrowed my friends 66 Mini out in New Mexico back in the early 90's, it was a great handling car. I have always been involved with air-cooled VW's and had the following rides:
56 Ragtop Beetle
68 Beetle
72 Beetle
72 Super Beetle
74 Super eetle
75 Beetle - heavily modified 2 liter motor, Berg trans, webers etc...
63 Notch Back
73 Thing
I just sold the Thing last summer after 18 years of ownership:(
Current vehicles are
2004 Jetta TDI
2005 Jetta GLI - 6 Speed Turbo
1982 Porsche 911 - My older brother has been a Porsche wrench for about 30 years and currently has an 84 Carrera and 73 2.0 914, his favorie car was his old 914-6.
I really like the looks and handling of the new Mini and plan on picking up a 03 to 05 model sometime next year. The main items that concern me is the electric steering box problems and early transmission failure.
I enclosed a photo of the old Thing and the Porsche

Welcome!
Two great clubs in NC - M2C2 has more "mass" around the Charlotte area, THMMC has more around the Triad and (recently) the Triangle. THMMC (Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club) has (at least) monthly meets around Raleigh. Just had a great meet & drive on Saturday.
You can find out more about the THMMC events here. Free to join! Come out and see us sometime!

Hi, I am from the Raleigh area as well (Cary) and would like to join a local club. I ordered my 2008 Cooper S on Monday from Flow in Winston Salem. I am also interested in joining a local club to participate in group drives (love the mountains) and auto cross events.
Sounds like Tarheel club has the most presence in this area.... right?

We have slightly more than a few Triangle members now.
Both the President and VP of THMMC are now in the Raleigh area - so now quite a few events are in the Raleigh area. We commonly have 20ish cars at our local meets - sometimes more. True that the club was founded in the Triad - it's the "Flow" home club, so to speak (M2C2 is the "Hendrick" home club) - but there are a TON more MINIs in the Triangle than there were 18 months ago - and there's a lot of activity here now as a result. Lots of folks are members of both THMMC and M2C2 and we play well together (most of the time ).
Come out and see us sometime! Keep an eye on the "Events" page at the Tar Heel MINIs site for details - a little slower right now because it's winter - but still stuff going on just about every month.
