Not happy with new brakes
Not happy with new brakes
Just installed new front rotors and pads on 2012 w/45k miles. Front right had stuck and worn inside pad to backing plate and scored rotor. Not sure how long kid will keep this car so went with Durago kit from RockAuto with ceramic pads. After bed in and week of driving not happy with initial bite and they are squeaking. (Used brake grease on pad backs) Any suggestions for better pads to at least get back to oem? If not ceramic also need advice on cleaning rotors for compatibility with different pad materials.
Thanks

At the risk of insulting you on your first post.
You bought the cheapest pads and rotors available on Rock Auto.
If not for track use, go with Centric, or better Power Stop. Along with any clips.
Dump the Durago rotors.
Also DO NOT USE ANY FORM OF GREASE ON THE BACK OF PADS.
It will eventually melt and coat the rotors.

Only lightly lube the sliding areas.
Ive seen bad results of greasing pads, in my 20 years as a brake tech in my first career. Even the stuff they include.
↑ But it is recommended.

Not offended at all. As stated I wasn’t sure how long my teen wanted to keep the car and she will never track/auto-x it. (I have Miata for that).
Thanks for the recommendation, used power stops on another vehicle so may go that route.
Still, back to my original question. Why not just use power stop pads on these rotors? What is specific risk/issue?

You can try just new pads.
Make sure the rotors are deglazed first. Use Scotch Brite pads to roughen them up.
Make sure you use the shims and new hardware that come with the pads, lube only the sliding areas.
Do not put grease on the back of the pads, the shims are included to stop squealing.
