I am from Montréal,Qc and I am planing also to do the whole trip. I took time off from my work all july. Last time I talked to my GF about the MTTS and the whole trip, she will be let me do it even I am alone. Before giving my final answer by registration, I will take time, pen and paper to budget everything. It will cost "an arm and a leg".
I am hoping to do the entire MTTS course from New Jersey to LA as well. I ran with the 2010 event as far as Pittsburgh and had a blast, but was kind of sad to wave off the group headed West... This year, a lot will depend on what is happening at work in July. I have the vacation time - but if a needy project suddenly erupts in late June I could be writing this off....
I would imagine they will run the "launch" like they did last time. The night before, there was a nice party in Manhattan at an art gallery where the Countryman was on display. The next morning the "launch" happened at MINI's North American HQ just off the Garden State Parkway at the Montvale exit. A few hundred MINIs lined up and itching to go - and the company opened up some of the engineering bays so that we could chat with engineers and see what they are working on. There was registration and some give aways - but the cool thing was a cheerleading squad giving us all a rousing send off as we hit the road. The NJ State Police closed the Garden State Parkway for a few minutes to let our entire group get onto the highway together. We were heading for lunch in Philadelphia at a car museum and an overnight in Baltimore. The drive from Baltimore to Pittsburgh was great fun - as we left the Interstates and did some of my favortie parts of Route 40 in PA with a lunch break at Nemacolin Woodlands.
The two events on this years MTTS I am looking foward to are laps of the Charlotte Motor Speedway (they let the group into Indy and Bonneville last time) - and a little later the whole group will take on the "Tail of the Dragon" as well....
After taking 10 days to get to LA, I need to get home a lot quicker and may try for that in 3 to 5 days with long, long driving days planned. However, I will stop over in Vegas on the Sunday night of the return - and maybe take a full day there as a rest day before heading East again Tuesday morning. Hoping to be back in New Jersey by that Saturday or Sunday at worst.
I did make a lot of new friends and it was fun just crusing with so many like-minded people... Can't wait for July !!

We are getting a hotel up by the rally start. I am hoping they post any pre-party information so maybe I can attend. I am all booked for the majority of my vacation for the year, so I had to take some time away from xmas days to gave off for this event...I'm only taking off time enough to get me to Washington. (my work is open 24/7 including all holidays!)
Thank you for posting the details from previous years. I wonder if the engineering bays would be open on 4th of July...
I am looking forward to my first MTTS...!!

I'll be leaving bright and early 7/4 from Queens, NY. I was at the first leg of MTTS 2010 from NJ to DC with my wife. We had such a great time that we decided to go a bit longer this time. NJ to Chicago, then back to NYC with a 1 day stop-over in Lancaster, PA. Hope to meet some fellow New Yorkers on the way!
