York PA - whats your problem?
I've been driving around the York PA area a lot lately and have noticed that just about every other Mini I've passed has been relatively unfriendly. I've seen about 10 Mini's in the past few days and only 1 has waved to me.
What's really odd is there's probably enough Mini's for a York club, but I don't think there's one in the area. Maybe someone from the area could chime in and say if they know of anyone who's friendly?

dude its like that alot of places I've been. Even on Long Island, where we have a club, people could care less about someone waving to them. You gotta realize how many are actually sold versus how many are sold to people that are actually interested in other Mini's. The ratio is very far off. Sometimes I flash my high beams at some (in the daylight of course
) and they have no reaction. Its just not something worth worrying about. There are just sooo many fruity people out there that buy these cars not because they handle very well, or are quite quick, but simply because they are "trendy, cute, good on gas". You're never going to get a reaction from "those" types of people. That's why we go to Mini events or just car events in general, because we know anyone who is going to bother going to an event like that will actually recognize you and might even be interested in a little conversation about our cars. Those who aren't interested, and they are the majority, will never bother going to an event like that and dont take any interest in their car.
Just my $.02 though...

BTW Its "those" people that the POS dealership (Mini of the Hamptons) that I bought my car from are only interested in servicing. They've refused to work on my car which is still under warranty blaming it on my CAI, pulley, and catch can!! Anyways, I'm a little hateful of them because this IS an enthusiasts car and unfortunately people who aren't enthusiastic about our cars buy them and dont take any interest in what these cars can really do. I just think dealerships should be a little more open minded to enthusiasts and not shun them away so quickly. Of course there is always the other problem of being so closely related to BMW and I'm convinced, at least at Mini of the Hamptons, that BMW customers ALWAYS come first. Simply because of the amount of money being spent by them and I dont appreciate that at all.
Steve - on your first comment, I agree with you to some extent but you have to realize the demographic here. The location is close to an hour away from the nearest Mini dealer and you rarely if ever see a Mini on the used car lots here. That means the people who have them have gone out of their way to find one. With that in mind, I can't imagine that they aren't more enthusiastic about their car.
As for your second comment, again I agree to some extent. While I think the service center should try harder to work with after market products, you can't possibly expect them to know every part out there and what impact it has on the stock engine, which is why they refuse work a lot of the time. They see it's been modded and honestly can't be expected to trouble shoot it. Plus they do say that work not done by them voids the warranty when you purchase it. My guess is the reason it seems BMW people get better service is because there are less of them modding their cars.
Now, back on topic, what's wrong with York PA?!?!

week, however.
There used to be a York MINI club, but it only had about 8 members and
dissolved a few years ago. I've put NAM spotter cards on over a dozen
MINIs in York over the years, and one actually responded to me on this site.
Some of the York MINI owners belong to the Carlisle MINI club http://www.carlislemini.org
Interesting, I had thrown a line to the carlisle mini group and might join them for a meetup sometime, but its pretty far north. I don't think I've seen you around town though and I've seen quite a few Mini's over the last week (they're coming out of the woodwork for some reason).
Where do you get the NAM spotter cards?

I'm glad to have read your post. My husband and I traveled to Washington DC over the weekend and not one Mini driver waved back at us after we waved first. Even in my area (Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Virginia), Mini drivers are quite stuck-up. However, I will still continue to wave eventhough I doubt I will be waved back in return. Where's the Mini love????
Maybe York is too interested in Jeeps.... my co. sponsors the PA Jeep Show which was 2 weekends ago out there.
When I visit my mom out in Lewisburg, PA, I see a lot of MINIs on the way, but no wavers!
As for non-wavers.... well, we all have to realize that some people buy their MINIs just because they get good gas mileage
I try not to take it personally when people don't wave back..... but I'm still like WTF?

I run accross that allot here in St. Louie too.
Trend I notice is next to never a wave from MINI cabrio justa Coopers. Seems most in this area are of the female persuasion. For whatever reason chicks just are not wired to want to be a 'part of the club' like many guys seem to. Not good or bad, just is.

You're also 3000 miles away :-D
No offense intended. Unfortunatly your sister MINI drivers don't "get it" to share that we are driving the coolest cars regardless of gender and we should share that knowledge with each other!!
My Husband gets really embarrassed...oh well!!
To the 20% or so of girls that wave like yourself, Thanks!
To the rest, it's all good!Happy Motoring!
mordecai,
Welcome to York county life, it's like that here. I promise that if I see you, I'll wave!
