Will this work?.. 19x8 - What Offset?

Hey Motoring Fans,

I've got an opportunity to pick up some normally $300 rims (each) for $100 (each) but they're a 19x8 and either a 35 or 45 offset. I would think that the 35 might be too little but the 45 might push them in too far.. I've seen posts of people running 19x7.5's.. and 18x8's but the .5" in the 19 could break the deal.. They make 18's but no one has them in stock and probably won't for months.. Even 19 is a little large for my tastes.. but for a hunny a piece i have a hard time passing them up..

Does anyone have any experience in making something this big fit the Coop?..

You should buy them regardless, if they don't fit, just sell them

Good point.. and that was actually my first thought. I probably will pick them up. If they didn't fit the Mini.. I have no idea what else a 19x8 in a 4x100 would fit.. I think that might be Scion range.. but I'm not sure.

If they did fit the Mini, I'd keep 'em and if I didn't like them for daily drivability, I'd stack 'em in the garage for "special" occasions..

Any opinions on offset?..

MINI2 members who've reported having 19" wheels are all running 215/35-19 tires. These tires are "tall" at 24.9" in diameter and I suspect you'd have rubbing issues with ET35. With ET45 you can use spacers if they are "too far in".

You can run up to 20X7.5's on a cooper, Don't know about that half inch on the width though the tire for the 20's are 225/30r20's, I manage a bling bling shop in Richmond, VA. I can do a testfit on my S tomorrow with a 20x8 to see if there would be any rubbing issues.

Hey WhataRicky,

Thanks for the test fit. I think the 20's would be just a little over the already over-the-top 19's..

Yeah... I'm a little worried, after reading a bunch of posts on the Mini2 board about how 19's rub and the ride pretty much stinks. I wish I could get a 225/30/19.. It should have a sidewall pretty close to a 215/35.. but be a little more flush with the edge of an 8" rim. That being said, the more flush it is.. the wider and more square it is, which can easily cause rubbing. The crappy thing is.. they don't make a 225/30/19.. they only make a 35.. or a 215/35. The 225/35 would be far too big.. and the 215/25 would probably angle in.. giving a slight "euro tuner" (read: VW) look, which I'm not a big fan of. I'm sure it wouldn't be that bad.. but I'm just a little leery of going that route. I had a perfect plan in place.. an 18x7.5 with a 215/35 on it.. perfect!.. but I wouldn't be able to get the rims for a couple months. We'll see..

Anyway.. here's the pic of the stock Axis TC Evo rim.. The outter ring is removable and so it could be color matched to your car or whatever.. When I'm done with it, it'll probalby be a mat-dark-gray.. like in the lower, photoshopped, pic..

The actual tire size will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, not all 21535r19's are the exact same height.(some people will lead you to believe differently) There are small variances and the tire choice can make a big difference in rubbing and not rubbing. (Lots of wonderful tire tech) example... Falken ziex 512 tires tends to roll kinda gently from the tread to the sidewall where a Toyo Proxes PX4 is a bit sharper giving the Toyo proxes px4 the appearance that it has a larger sidewall... hard to describe, I will try to get pics of what I am saying as well. Even though the length from the top of the wheel to the top of the tire may be the same, the angle at which they roll from the sidewall to the tread may be different giving the appearance of a taller or smaller side wall.
