Air Compressor POS Warning...

Like many of you I ditched the runflats on my MCS for better tires and aftermarket rims. I also picked up a portable air compressor with a cigarette lighter style power plug from an auto parts store (Pep Boys, I think).

Well, the first time I ever had occaision to use it, (thankfully in my driveway, and also thankfully on my other car) I discovered it was a total P.O.S. (I think you know what that stands for )

I did get 1 use out of it, but the fault lies with a badly designed/assembled plug, which kept loosing contact with the fuse hidden inside, and also kept overheating until a wire finally broke loose.

It stopped working the first time after about 3 minutes, and I had to take the fuse out and put it back in to get it to work again, at which time it did finally pump up the tire before the plug got so hot it stopped working a second time (the inside of my Mustang smelled like burning plastic, and it was coming from the compressor power plug)

Just wanted to warn any of you who might have this one and haven't tried it yet, and to suggest you avoid it if you're shopping for one. Pics attached....

That's all, carry on!

Hey better than the one I got in Feb, used it several times, caught fire in my driveway. Past the return date useless and a certain safety hazard, I'm thinking of replacing it with a ture compressor and maybe pick up some air tools for it so rotating tires can be done quicker.

That's just like the worthless one I picked up at Meijers last year. 10 minutes of use killed my battery last winter (with the engine on) when I needed to top off my winter non-rf tires.

This fall, I'm ordering the Continental Tire's ContiComfortKit from the Tire Rack.
