Help!!! Rusty T50 screw stuck in Rotor!
Help!!! Rusty T50 screw stuck in Rotor!
I bought a set of Bremo Cross-drilled rotors and Hawk brake pad (I'm soooo excited) but after getting the pads and caliper off, I couldn't get the rotor screw out!
The screw seems to have rusted in and won't budge at all. Does anyone know a way to get this out?!?!?!?!
Thanks so much!

One of the first things I did was to loosen/lube/retighten those things. They just look like trouble waiting to happen.
I'd soak it liberally with PB Blaster, give it a little time, then use a cheater bar and hope...

I encountered a frozen rotor bolt recently on an .:R32
I used this:

Worked perfectly. I bet you can get a Torx bit to fit it.
Well worth the investment.

Yep, an impact driver is the answer. Mine were stuck too, and a 3/8 drive T-50 bit on an impact driver did the trick. I think the bit cost about as much as the driver, and neither was over $10.
Let us know.

You don't want to use heat near the bearing, the impact driver is the way to go. If the head strips and the bit won't bite, then you can work it loose with a hammer and small chisel (I have had to do that alot), but get new bolts and apply some anti-seize lubricant before re-installing.

Drilled out? So when you get the rotor off you'll need to use vise grips on the rest?
Bolts on the back??
Oh - you mean those holding the brake caliper?
PB Blaster or equivalent - let it sit for a few hours, or overnight if you can. Sounds like you've got some serious corrosion issues.
How big a wrench are you using? Time for a breaker bar and cheater bar, but first liberally soak in penetrating oil to reduce the risk of just twisting parts off!

Get some PB blaster and get a buddy who has done brake work before to help you.
