SSR Comps durability

I am thinking of getting a set of SSR Comps to replace my badley curbed up Momo quasar 2's. My momo's are also a little bent I was told. My question is... how strong are the SSR Comps? Do they bend easy?

Thanks

really? well that ends the discussion then. I hadn't looked for them yet. I didn't know they were out of production. Guess I need to start looking for another wheel

I have one that's bent in three places, but I have 215/40-17 tires. Potholes WILL bend them if hit hard enough.

Potholes will bend any rim, light or heavy, if you hit a big enough pothole at higher speed.

So ask first how you drive and what is your history of bending rims. If your roads are full of potholes then it's risky to get light weight rims and drive fast.

If you do get light rims you'll have to be really careful. Also which tires you choose would be important to protect your rims as lower sidewalls are stiffer and less able to absorb shock from a pothole.

For availability of SSR comps talk to Alex@tirerack.com, maybe they will be in stock.

Unfortunately, the San Francisco Bay Area is one mass of potholes. You have to look up once in a while to keep from hitting other cars while most of the time you are looking at the road for MINI-eating holes. I feel like I'm driving and autocross course in some parts of Marin County.

In the larger sizes with heavier cars they bend more easily. I bent twice on my Audi A6 with 18x8.5s but both times was due to low tire pressures *and* a pothole. The 16x7.5s on Mini have not had any problems.

Tire Rack still carried them in multiple sizes to fit Minis until a few months ago when they ran out of most of the sizes. Tire Rack now has a new SSR Type C wheel listed on their website which is virtually identical to the old SSR Comp wheel, but without the polished lip. They have them in 15", 16", and 17" sizes to fit Minis, and are scheduled to arrive in stock in July and August of this year (depending on size). They are as light as the older Comps too. I'll be picking up a set of 16x6.5 SSR's for autocrossing when they are available later this year.
