Can someone define design style
I'm looking at these wheels but wonder if they would be considered "ricey"?
I am pretty clear about what the term means as far as body stuff. Although it's not a look I would want for my MINI, I have seen aspects of the style that are appealing. I was looking at changing my wheels and wonder what makes a wheel more or less "ricey". (Is it offensive to use the term??)
I would like to make El Kabong a little different, but would like to keep a classic, "European" look if there is such a thing. Would buying a japanese or korean wheel, for example, take me away from the look I'm going for or is it just the style of wheel that matters and not the maker?
Like I said, I have seen some really great looking cars that one would consider "ricey" and think the style is great for a guy in his 20's, but for me I'm just looking for fun and a look that is more timeless.
Here's a wheel I like, but it has a blue piece in the center that I don't like. What I like is the "curvy" aspect, it gives the wheel movement.

Thanks all,
Annette

The only problem I have with curvy style wheels like this is that the curvy parts point forward on one side of the car and backwards on the other side of the car and I just think that looks odd.
For a truly timeless look on a MINI, I'd go with the Panasport wheels like these which have been used on racing Mini's for decades. This design is definitely a timeless European/British classic. The stock S-lites were made as copies of these, but these are the real thing.

But, of course, you should do what YOU want to do, and I have not seen those curvy wheels on a MINI yet. . . .

Yucca,
That curve going the wrong way did occur to me. I wondered if they made 2 one way and 2 the other but I guess that would be way too logical.
I love the wheels you posted and will see what I can find similar in my price range.
I also kind of like these, a modern interpretion of a "holey" to me.
Don't know if I'd like them in person, though.

If you look at just one spoke, it would radiate outward straight until just before the rim, when it bends, like your ankle. Ends at a point, like toes.
Point is, one side looks like they're running backwards.
Annette, if you're liking the Panasport design, check out the Konig Rewinds. Much less expensive.

Those Rewinds are great, and the two-tone ones would look fantastic on a PW/B MINI!
I also love BBS web-spoke design wheels, especially 2 piece ones. I had them on my previous VW GTI, and I loved them so much that I paid way too much for the R-90's. This is another european classic design that has been around for a while, so it's nothing new or different, but it does fulfill the timeless classic requirement. . .
If I were buying wheels today and money was no object, I'd get these BBS RG-F's. They are not 2 piece, but they are forged and very lightweight.

I forget, what wheels do you have right now?

I like those, too. I think you guys have set me on the right course. I couldn't come close to defining what I was looking for, just knew it was out there somewhere. Is there another site where I can look at wheels on the MINI, kind of like Tire Rack? I like Tire Rack, but just wanted to do a bit more searching.
Also, on my PW/B, what finish would be considered more "classic"?
I do have the chromeline exterior pkg, I like that little bit of chrome to offset the black and white thing, but are chrome wheels the way to go?
Is this getting closer (I'm going to go look for those Konigs but found these in the meantime)

I have the sports pkg, so have the S lites, web spokes. I like them but I'm thinking of keeping those with the run-flats to use for driving school and getting the Yokohama tires with a second set of wheels for everyday.

I would say the originally posted wheels are "ricey" they have a very cheap and unsophisticated look to them. They aren't the most "ricey" wheels i have seen, but thats what category i would put them in if i had to.
Generally if you dont want "ricey" wheels, you will stay away from companies like wheelmax.com or anything like that. That is their specialty... the import look.
For nice "non-ricey" rims, check out www.tirerack.com (some on there are a little cheap looking) , www.tunershop.com , and http://www.rh-wheels.com ,
EDIT: just noticed you wanted a euro look. Euro cars tend to keep it simple and stay away from big and flashy/bright....although that is sorta changing as polished wheels come back, but they definitely wouldnt get chrome or painted rims. Check out www.vwvortex.com for examples of euro look

I thought about black wheels, but to me the wheels just disappear and fade into the lines of the tire rim pieces. Guess it's the interior designer in me, I stand back and close one eye for the "look" and work off the whole image. The black wheel thing is very youthful and I think I'd feel like mutton dressed as lamb

YuccaPatrol--
Those are close but I don't think that is what they are. The spokes look to be a little more organic, well, have a bit of a curve to them and the center has a concave curvature instead of being flat.

To answer your question though... if I were looking for a "classic style" wheel for my car, this wouldn't be it.
