mount & balance Qs.
mount & balance Qs.
I've found some nice rims on a different site than the tires I would like to have mounted on them. If I had the rims and tires here, what would be a reasonable cost to have them mounted and balanced correctly from a reputable shop? Or is it worth it to choose a different tire and have it mounted and balanced for free from the same place I buy the wheels? Any and all suggestions are welcome!
Thanks-

mount/balance is about $25 each around my area, but the problem is
finding a shop that can mount without scratching the rim. You might
want to talk to your car buddies to find a shop that can mount without
scratching + have a Hunter balance machine.

you can find a place with a hunter gsp9700 machine on http://www.gsp9700.com
Most are good shops who are willing to spend the extra $$ for the hunter machine.

Mounting is the problematic part
Balancing the wheel + tire is not the major concern. Besides almost everyone has a Hunter gsp9700... It is the mounting of the tire on the wheel itself that has potential to go sour.
Rant - Recently had tire mounted at supposedly the best shop in a fifty mile radius. Unfortunately one of my wheels was damaged and the shop will not take responsiblity for their fault!
Due to the fact I didn't notice the damage until this weekend, three weeks later while waxing them!
LONG STORY SHORT - BS DON'T GO TO BIG BEAR TIRE anyone if you live in southeastern Wisconsin!!!
Anyways, wherever you decide to go, clearly make your disclaimer your wheels are immaculate and want them to be returned to you as such. If they see any markings prior to installation they should point them out prior to installation. Additionally you may want to watch them mount the tire - make it real clear they are liable if they screw up! Lastly look the job over before leaving the company's premises (where I slipped). Seems like a lot but hopefully it won't prove neccessary.
GOOD LUCK!

balance is the key....
Our cars are very sensitive. Read thru TireRack's owners manual for new wheel purchases. Alex should have the link..
I woul recommend calling up and asking the shops if they understand how to match balance. That is the process of matching the heavy part of the wheel to the lightest part of the tire. Thus, using the least amount of weight.
