Spare wheel and tire - seeking suggestions

Anyone here running nonrunflats and carrying a spare. If so, which kind of spare whee/tire do you use and where do you stow it?

Was carrying a spare in the boot. I have a mini cooper spare tire/wheel. Now, I have a plug kit with a compressor for around town, and the spare tire for trips.

You can get an emergency space saver wheel from Classic Mini (800.388.1098 or 440.266.6700) for $34.20 plus shipping ($15 for me). They don't have a website, so it's best to call them directly. Then you can order the tire (T135/70MD-15 Bridgestone Tracompa) from TireRack talk to Alex (888-981-3953 or email alex@tirerack.com). The tire is $68 plus shipping ($10.65 for me). Mounting and balancing at my local Discount Tire: $15. You can get a spare tire bag from Jersey Girl (http://www.millpondminis.com/baglady.html), $37 plus shipping ($5 for me).

I also have the Ultrik mobility kit from Mini Mania (http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NM.../InvDetail.cfm). It fits nicely in the side storage area and has the "official" Mini tire sealant. Or you could wait, Alex at TireRack is coming up with a kit also. I also carry a tire plug kit ($7 at Pep Boys), small needle nose vise grips to pull out nails ($7 at Home Depot), and a small pocket knife to cut off the excess plug.

Hope this helps.

Like others I carry an emergency kit for around town (can of goo, plug kit, compressor). For longer trips, I have a set of snows for the car and just throw one of those in the boot.

I purchased my mini cooper wheel with spare from a wrecking yard for $48 with shipping. Here's one for $40 from www.car-part.com

Is the Mini Cooper wheel with spare like a Honda civic doughnut?

Is it a small doughnut or a full sized spare?

I got a Cooper doughnut tire which fits nicely into a blue, spare zip bag purchased from The Bag Lady.....don't know if she's still around or not. Also bought a jack and a lug wrench which fit into the boot side storage compartments. At first I stored the spare on the floor behind the passenger seat and then discovered that I could fit it behind the driver's seat without affecting the position I use for driving. That's where it has stayed and I have it with me at all times.

How did you find a MINI spare wheel and tire? The website doesn't even list MINI. Did you call them?

You only need to search for part by the type of car you have.

Under "Select Make/Model" the MINI is listed as BMW Mini Cooper.

Search under "wheel" and a variety of wheel sizes will appear. Select compact spare and then search. There are now three wrecking yards with the compact spare. I guess that means three more coopers are in wrecking yard heaven.
