SSR declared bankruptcy in Jan 2005

On several forums it was posted that they filed bankruptcy. Someone from the Tirerack had confirmed this on one of the sites.

I just ordered a set of SSR GT1s. I hope they pull out of bankruptcy and keep producing wheels.

Where did you order them from, and if you don't mind, what did they cost? What wheels are you mounting? Did you go with 18X7.5?

I ask because I've been eyeing them for a month now.

That just means the suppliers get stiffed. The company changes managers. The logo changes and we all buy the same parts off a new parts list.

It's just like an airline.

Or a certian racing school I did a lot of work for... but we won't go there...lol

Rest easy. They'll still sell you wheels!

Well, someone should have told me! I did an extensive search on SSR on both NAM and Mini2 and I didn't see any post stating that. Funny how I found it on an Evo and S2k site.

Oh, and the GT3 is nice and expensive.

I purchased them for $249 each in 17x7 from Alex at the tirerack. I was considering 18x7.5 but I wanted to run the Kumhos I have now. If you hurry, you might be able to pick them up a set of 18x7.5 for $259 each at the Tirerack. They look very aggresive in that size but in SF the potholes are big...speaking of potholes I saw one in New Orleans in the French Quarter about two weeks ago that must have been the size of an elephant's footprint and just as deep. A Veedub beetle ran it over and the car was making noise afterwards. I am not kidding...it was that big.

Does Japanese law work the same way as the U.S.? I am not too worried about purchasing spare wheels but someone else might be. BTW, the Wilwoods on the SRT-4 in GRM look great. I might need a set in the future to cover up the empty space that's going to be showing up after mounting them.

well, being able to read Japanese helps.... just didn't feel like posting as
it is not very clear if SSR's going to be bought out or not.

yeh, I would not want to ruin my wheel set just for one bent
wheel!

Do you forsee a limited supply in the near future?

Somewhat of a bummer.
I called this am to order a spare GT1 in silver
(16x7, ET42 4x100) and tire rack has none left,
and there will be none coming in (they do still
have some white ones left). No one else carries
them in the US to my knowledge. Don't see any
on Ebay either.
I guess I'll have to be extra careful with the
potholes and RR tracks from now on, and hope
that if one gets damaged, that it can be repaired.

That they were on clearance was a sign that the supply was going away.

One of the primary reasons I've owned multiple sets of SSR Comps is the ease of replacement - and the fact that tire rack carries them. I'm not interested in waiting on the slow boat from japan for comparable wheels.

I with TR would pick up another high-end brand. Volk would be ideal, but I keep hearing that's VERY unlikely...

Jeff- you haven't check out the lastest Tirerack catalog? I got mine yesterday in the mail and walla! GramLights.

Anyone want my Comps? I want 'em ProS's. hahaha.
nonononononoono... No more spending on my MCS!!!
nononononono.... eeeerrrr... nononononno.....

cristo- I wouldn't be too worried about bending 16x7's as long
as you're using high performance 205/50's. I don't have a
spare for my Comps either and don't plan to get one.

I got the GT3 spare because im running 35 profile on my G35C
and it's a heavy car.
