R55 new wheels and tire suggestions

Just bought a 2009 Cooper S Clubman and the tires just keep rubbing on all the dips. It came with 225/40R18.

I have my eye on some Advanti Storm S1. Which one is better for solving my rubbing problem?

- 16x7.5 with 225/50R16 with offset 35
- 17x7 with 225/45R17 with offset 35 or 40

Which offset is best?
Will I need spacers?

Should I consider narrower tires i.e. 205 or 215?

Here's some pictures of Clubman and the tire.

Thanks for your help.

OEM tire sizes are 195/55-16 and 205/45-17 and 205/40-18.

I would go down to a 17 inch wheel with 205/45 or 215/45 tires to keep the rubbing away. The 17x7 +40 Storms would be a great wheel, since they are very light weight.

One more vote for a 17 inch wheel with 215/45 tires. I would prefer a ET45 offset wheel though.

I’m running the stock 205/45/17’s, for the past year, and the has been enough grip. However, I am going to be on 215/45/17 for the first time in April for Unofficial MOTD, and will most likely keep this size for summer tires. If things pan out like they are, mini might not see anymore snow, but going to run stock size all seasons.

I want to pull the trigger on a set of 17x7 if found for about $180 less, but the only have +35 offset instead of the +40 offset. Will the +35 work and remove my rubbing issue?

My summer wheels are effectively 17x7 +37 (+45 and an 8mm spacer). With a 205/45-17 tire, you should be good for clearance. Does the Clubman still have an OEM suspension?

I don't really know if the suspension is OEM, I'm guessing it is.
