ROTAS Slipstream and Tire Selection Question

I'm helping my girlfriend pick out some wheels for her MINI and we have decided to go with the ROTAS Slip Stream wheel.

17x7.5
4x100 Bolt Pattern
+45 Offset
Flat Black

Now, we need to find some tires. Would a 225/45/17 or a 215/45/17 be a well fitting tire? Any suggestions. Not very familiar with the offsets of a MINI and we are trying to get it so the wheels are pretty close if not flush with the fender. Would it be better to go with 35 profile instead of a 45? We want to make sure that there will be no rubbing on the wheels. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

Watch Out for Rub!

I recently purchased Motegi MR116 Size17"x7, w/ a 40mm hub offset and there some rubbing on rear fender... Had to shave about 4mm off the inside of fender, still hits on hwy dips. Will need to shave more... In my opinion, dont deviate too much from the stock hub spacing. You can always use spacers if its too close on the other end...

/sigh

Is it common to use spacers with the aftermarket wheels on MINI's? Is rubbing pretty common on many aftermarket wheels?

Edit: I found that on a rim that is 7.5 wide the offset should be around 40-43. I think that if I put 5mm spacers on each wheel and put on a 215 tire it should be fine.

I got 16x7 Rota Slipstreams from FastMINI.net. For 17" they recommend 17x7.5 with +45 offset.

Haven't ordered wheels yet... Summer has been busy. Wheels will be ordered at a much later date, at the moment we are looking at a couple other options too.
