Curious also... for those running the 15" holies (5.5" wide wheel) on track cars...

What SIZE TIRE, for the track days, are
most people running on an R56 on these 7-Hole "IMOLA" R81 15" WHEELS ??

HMMM.

This wheel.... 15 x 5.5, 4x100, ET-45.... What tire on the track??

I would shop for a wider wheel as you can't get much tire on that narrow rim

Have them widened to put a good tire on them.
I believe there are still people that will widen aluminum wheels.

I guess that would take them out of the...cheap zone though..!

Thank you for the thoughtful replies...

I'm interested in what people are running on these R81 wheels at the track.

I have run R81 15" wheels at the track since 2004 on my MCS and they work fine. They are lightweight and will accept tires up to about 205mm wide which are very easy to find.

Some various sizes I have run on both street and the track-
195/50-15 fits rims 5.5-7" wide, perfect for 6" wide rim, tire diam. 22.6"
195/55-15 fits rims 5.5-7" wide, perfect for 6" wide rim, tire diam. 23.3"
205/50-15 fits rims 5.5-7.5" wide, perfect for 6.5" wide rim, tire diam. 23"

I have lowered suspension with coilovers so smaller tire diameter is not a big deal, if anything when I run wider wheels with taller tires I get rubbing

For track use 205/50-15 is a good size to look at with more tire selection. It's about as wide as is practical for the narrow R81 15x5.5" wheel. Any wider tire size is just pinched on the wheel and is limited. An important thing to remember for track is that without more front negative camber you will never use the full front tire which limits grip and increases wear. The MINI runs about -0.5 degrees front camber OEM but will benefit from adjustable front camber plates and a lowered suspension with -2.5 to -3 degres front negative camber.

Which tire were you considering? Maybe Toyo R888R in 195/55-15 or 205/50-15?

White Holies and 205/50-15 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R tires.....a very good set up! Fast! Ok, my Justa isn’t fast, but really holds it own thru corners with these tires and wheels! (Gone to a 7” wide Kosei, but still have a soft spot for Holies!)

for track use it's a poor choice, I run 205/50/15 tires on 15x8 wheels, 6.5 is too narrow for 200tw, they all run wide

R81 wheels are 15 x5.5" and are the lightest OEM MINI wheel available commonly found with the base Cooper gen 2. I was able to get a couple of sets at low or no cost as take offs from other owners. On a budget they are usable for track duty or daily street driving for a base Cooper or MCS alike.

However they are not a good solution for ultimate track grip as mentioned. For that I use 15x8" and 225mm wide tires.

Thank you for all of the replies above !

Anyone else running these wheels, unmodified-wheel, on the track....

I'm curious which tires you are running?

Thanks
