New front pads fitted by service light wont reset?

Hi All
I had some new front brake pads fitted to our '09 Cooper 1.6i but I cant reset the brake service light? It goes through the motion with the little clock turning round but then just displays the same -350 miles and the car on the lift symbol and handbrake light are still on? Brake fluid level is fine.
Any ideas on how to cure this?
TIA.

did you replace the sensor? The sensor is 'consumed' if the pad wore enuf to trigger it. There is one sensor per axle ... for front it is left side, inner pad. Sensor fits into a slot in the pad backing plate. If you remove the sensor car will see this as 'worn' unless you clip the sensor then connect the wire ends together completing the circuit that gets broken when the sensor gets worn off . . .

I didn't do the job due to an injury but just asked the guy who did it and he said no as there wasn't a sensor included with the pads i supplied. You think he might have mentioned that. Oh well. Anyway, thanks for the advice, i've ordered one which as arrived this morning and i'l see if I can get it fitted today. I'll report back. Thanks again.
