17" run flat puncture
Hey guys,
had my first problem with MIN today.. travelling down the road when the tyre pressure light came on (17" run flats).
Stopped at the nearest garage and saw no problem. when i checked the pressures they were 33,33,33,13! Amazing that I couldn't feel any difference with the handling or ride
Round to the nearest tyre shop.. thinking this could be expensive!
I explain that it is a run flat and whether they can cope with that. yep no problem.
Took the tyre off, took the 1" screw out of the tyre(!), repaired the puncture, charged me £10.95 ($7 approx).
New tyre cost.. £175.00.. saved a bit there.
The tyre itself looks completely standard inside, but the guy repairing it showed me that while the centre is soft, the edge and wall are completely solid, it just doesn't flex at all.

I had mine plugged (in exchange for letting the mechanic take it for a spin around the block!) It's been a few weeks, and I've had no problems since.
(Also bought a nice Hella air gauge from the guys at http://www.rspeed.net. My old pencil gauge was imprecise enough that I caused the sensor to light once due to uneven pressure.)

Same thing happened on my MC a few weeks ago, thought at first the cold weather might be affecting the readings, but after the second day I realized the tire had a problem. Went to Firestone, the guy said "We can't fix runflats, but we'll look at it" Looked at it, said "these aren't runflats" and fixed it. Thought I was going insane, but I know that they are the Dunlop safety runflats...oh well, fixed up fine. (Although I do have the spare on my MC, so when replacement time comes, I'll get lighter 16" tires)
I had a flat on one of my Dunlops a few weeks ago and the tire place would not fix it. He said he didn't want to damage the sensor in the wheel causing the light to go off on the dash. So not knowing any better, I took it to BMW and they patched it. I tried to get a new tire out of it (since it says not to patch it in the mini manual), but BMW says they called Dunlop to verify.
Works fine now.

Had similar experience. Runflat light came on and learned that it must flash to be working correctly. Brought to tire store who promptly told me that my tires were NOT runflats. I asked him "what does DSST mean at end of Dunlop's tire's name?". He called Dunlop and was told that DSST was their "runflat" name. Had 3 nails in tire and lost 5 lbs of pressure to set off the alarm. Was able to patch all 3.
Remember to get them patched and NOT plugged.

I had one of my runflats plugged, NOT patched. It soon started leaking very slowly, you had to fill up the tire every 3 days. Took it back and they patched it-that was months ago and has worked fine since!
I think my tyre was plugged and patched. The tyre shoppe guy showed me the plug and how the plug is covered by about a 2 inch diameter rubber "thingy" (I think that's the technical term

Just wanted to comment that if you have run the tire with very low air pressure, you decrease the tires ability to carry weight again. Once a tire had been run flat, and driven on, the heat buildup in the tire can lessen its structural integrity. If the tire doesn't loose much pressure, it wont be damaged. just an FYI

I've got a screw in a non run-flat Yokohama AVES 100 that I am sure
is through the tire. It hasn't leaked yet and I noticed it about 150
miles from home on Sunday. My plan is to run it until I order a new
tire and have it at my tire installers garage. How is that for a non run-flat??
DID we done good with these tires.....
