DIY wheel refurb

I recall seeing a DIY on wheel refurb; I need to do some work on my S-Lites. Can't find the thread. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I bought this kit from BavAuto, but haven't had time to use it:

Funny this should come up. I just happened across the video on YouTube a couple days ago. It looks like magic. Tedious, painstaking magic. Thinking about giving it a try for my rashed wheels. Can't hurt!

I just watched the video. Yes, that is what I remember from a year ago. As my wheels are presently without tires, imagine how much easier it will be!

I just went to the BAVAUTO.com website. Wheel refurb product description says "Silver paint matches BMW wheels best. For MINI wheels, compare color to BMW silver wheels before ordering." Anyone actually do this? The wheels I want to repair are S-Lites. I assume they are the same silver as BMW silver, but I don't know.

To my artistically challenged eye, the colors look the same between the BMW and MINI wheels in the pic below (the clean parts).

this is the paint code and the Sherwin Williams automotive formula code for

MINI wheel bright silver metallic

A54 79742 Wheel Brt Silver Met

any automotive paint supplier can mix the proper color with this information

for small batch work I like
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/index1.htm but you may have a local house that can fix you up . . .

note that as a PAINTED wheel this is a two part paint system .... SAME AS the body .... so you want the color BASE COAT and then need to top with clear . . .

the base will not have gloss or strength ... these come from the top coat . . .

I would suggest doing all 4...
So the exact color would not matter....

Honestly a used set of s-lites are cheap enough you might be better off just snagging another set.

I watched the video about that kit ....

all this is:

silver paint rattle can
clear rattle can
set of needle files
some sand paper
some masking tape
AND a tube of two part epoxy putty

(video skips over needing to use the clear btw)

You can buy the MINI correct paint as I posted previously.

You may have the other tools already - and using a Dremel (sanding tools) is not out of line either

their 'secret' is the filler putty . . . . which is VERY COMMONLY available. I dunno if Home Despots or ACE has it ... but they probably do. I know my POOL STORE has it ... this product is sold for plugging leaks in inground pools . . .

It is simply a VERY VERY strong filler .... (fully cured you can tap this stuff to take a screw!)

My point is you can duplicate the kit easily and possibly for much less $$.

Beyond the 'parts' all it takes is elbo grease.

The video is a decent tutorial of what you need to do

Of course you can.
But it's unclear if you will save much money, if at all.
Plus sometimes it's worth it to reward the vendor for doing the R&D to put a kit together, film an instructional video, and educate the world on $55 DIY repair kit vs. paying a wheel repair shop ~$150+ for the same.

Just saying there's nothing 'special' in the kit .....

Some could be like me and have everything in this kit except the paint in their shop already. And the kit paint is not a sure match .... my path IS.

Knock yourself out ..... buy the kit .... I've recommended it b4 ... years back .... it is an option ....

ON THE OTHER HAND

IF you have NONE of these components in your garage, THAT suggests you've never done ANYTHING like this b4. In that case you should NOT expect the same results you see in the video . . the video IS intended to sell the product and does not reflect real world experience IMO.
