Can curbed wheels be repaired?
Hi
after driving around with some new rubber my new wheels have begin to take quite a beating from my....... abuse
i was wondering if curbed wheels that have scratches on the outside be repairable... can someone possibly sand off the corners so therefore it wouldnt look so bad?
btw, my wheels are cast wheels

You can buff it out to a degree, but really depends on how deep the
scuffs are. It will look better than just leaving it alone though. If you
have deep scuffs (like chunks missing), you're probably better off
getting a new wheel or have it professionally repaired.
I usually use a 200grit to get the burrs off first. (mask off the area so
you don't enlarge the scratch). Then use 400 grit to smooth out, and
for polished rims, finish off with 1500grit wetsand it and clearcoat.
Sometimes it's better to use 1000grit depending on how polished or
brushed the wheel is.
Wait about 2 hours and while the clearcoat is still soft, I use ScratchX
to blend in the clearcoat into the wheel's original finish. Then let
dry for a few days and use either compound or ScratchX again to
polish it up even more to blend it in.
If you have painted wheels, try getting similar enamel paints at a hobby
shop and mix to get a close match. For me, flat paint is easier to mix
than gloss. I just use clearcoat at the end to get the glossy finish.

If you wetsand with 1500 grit, it will shine up real nice... (sometimes
you need to use lower grit because it will shine up so much that it looks like
stainless or chrome).
I had a SSR IntegralA2 repaired at www.wheelcollision.com once.
They did a good job. Nice hard powdercoat too.

As long as the wheels are not cracked and still round they can easily be refinished and painted or powdercoated.
Some alloy wheels have a clear coat so sanding will not match but depending on your wheel design that may not matter. The clear coat from some companies will crack over time and look bad.
