Can I put Gen 2 rims on my Gen 1 R50?
Can I put Gen 2 rims on my Gen 1 R50?
I have a 2004 R50 base model with the 15in factory rims. Would I have a problem putting 2011 cooper S 17in rims on it?? Someone is selling them locally and it would be cheaper for me to buy them from him then to put new tires on my rims.
THANKS!!!

Yep, no problem with the rims fitting - Gen1-to-Gen2 or Gen2-to-Gen1, as long as the wheel size suits the car's brakes. Indeed some wheel designs were used in both Gen1s and Gen2s.
Be aware that putting 17s on a justa Cooper will dull the car a bit, both in handling sharpness and low speed pick-up. It's not a huge effect but it just takes a little shine off. Much more ultimate cornering grip may be worth it. I think 16s are the optimum OEM size for a justa.

Nope, not the case in my experience - all Mini wheels have holes much bigger than 14mm diameter so neither bolt size is a tight fit in any wheel, and the cone seat is identical for both.
Good to know. I do know that this is sometimes a problem with aftermarket
wheels sold for Gen 1 cars and thought the same might be true of some of
the MINI brand wheels. I stand corrected.

Staying with light wheels is best for the R50 with less pony's to move the car. Light wheels benefit acceleration braking & handling. R50 Holey's are some of the lightest wheels you can find.
