Rim blades - I want them!

Just saw these from gobadges -https://www.gobadges.com/ProductDeta...DGES+RIMBLADES - anyone else like them as much as I do? I don't even have my car yet, but am thinking of getting them. I just hope that the blue is close to the true blue countryman color.

I think I need to see them on a car in person before I pass judgement.

Everything old is new again, as they say. The 21st century adaptation of port-a-walls.

I don't see the comparison to the spinners. They are simply a small accent. And, as someone who got a bad case of curb rash on my last set of white wheels, the protection value alone is worth it for me.

Seems like it'd be easier and cheaper to simply improve one's driving and avoid curbs.

I dont see anything wrong with them. I personally would not put them on my car for multiple reason of my car is black and silver so color would stand out a lot, and if i went with black it would look off on my superturismos.

They certainly are not for everyone and every car, but with a proper color scheme and wheel combo they could look very good. Like people who go a black car with red accent, rim blades would be a cheap alternative and accomplish the same goal to having the wheel lip painted red (as i have seen done many times and doesnt look bad)

You have never had a curb jump out and bite your wheels? Or have to avoid an idiot who's driving while like they own the road?
Comment seems a bit harsh considering the rings cost little and involve no modding of the wheel. Just saying......................

If this is viewed as a potential rash repair, then I think it has all the moxie of duct taping a broken bumper, or using that red tape on a broken tail light lens. If this is done with a view to customization, and originality, than to each his or her own. I'm not going to knock it.

Our grandparents were using a type of these before we were born. As I said earlier - Port-a-wall. This is nothing new. It was done for style.

I've never curbed a rim parking (my car has two side view mirrors) in my life. And if some idiot causes me to, that's called an accident. I repair accident damage.

I've never had one jump out and bite my wheels and if I have to swerve to avoid an idiot that's extenuating circumstances and an accident and I'd be getting the wheels repaired rather than putting a rubber lip on them (seems like a ghetto fix to me)

Well, if you don't smash these against a curb (like this will protect the wheel anyway), the sun would degrade the plastic soon enough. That is, if you don't go over the speed limit, and have the centrifugal force fling them off. And better hope you don't drive through a dirty puddle and get dirt in there, which would add to the abrasion on the alloy wheel (like what bras do to paint).

Just my opinion. More constructive than simply saying they look stupid.

These are not that bad guys!

If I had a set of black Challenge wheels or the JCW R105 Matte Black wheels I would use the red protector. And if you if you got a Electric Blue MINI with silver oem R90 wheels or a set of R98 wheels-a blue protector would look nice or if you got a Interchange Yellow MINI the yellow rim protectors would look nice even on a set of silver or white S-Lites.

Well, I guess I was ghetto at one time of my life. That's where chucks of broken curb would get kicked out by the car in front of you and bite your tire.
Let me be sure I got this straight - you would not try to aviod an accident caused by the other driver if it would cause you wheel rash. You would rather have the accident because insurance would cover the damage and replace your wheels if needed it.

I think they are a cool idea. Would like to see them installed.

I have so much I want to add. I'm going to bite my tongue.

Seriously, though. Many wheels come with a pinstripe on the rim edge. This is just another way to get that look.

Man, am I REALLY sorry that I ever started this thread! Besides, I just realized that I couldn't use them anyway, because the tunnel spoke wheels I ordered don't have an edge going all the way around. I'll definitely think twice, or thrice, before starting another thread again!

Lol all it is is the molding that goes on the outside of the door basically to prevent scratching and paint chipping. You can probably find this on ebay for $5 to $10.00

In my opinion, its your car and it should reflect your personality, if you like them, buy them. I actually like the look, and I have been driving for over 30 years. That being said, I grew up in NYC, and if you did not learn real fast how to parrell park from either side of the street, well then you were either walking alot or fixing rims alot. What I am unsure of is will these cause any balance issues on the wheel? and what are the chances of it ripping off at high speed and damage paint or worse any type of accident on the highway? can they stand up to a Autocross event? those would be my only concerns.

It seems like the "do it if you like it" attitude has become less tolerant over the years. Lighten up people. Do what you want to do, but don't ask the forum. Getting too many people who think they know better.

I feel ya, Joe. A lot of people have stopped posting on NAM due to some of ignorant rants that people go on when it is not to their liking Do what you like, its your car.

Lol, hell no, but as stated I'd have them repaired properly not by covering the damage up. To me it's the difference between a bondo DIY body repair job and well executed repair by someone who knows what they're doing.

As for chunks of curb being shot out from the car in front of you, that's still something I'd get repaired properly rather than just sticking a rubber lip over the lip of the wheel. When a big piece of 18wheeler tire got shot out from the car in front of me on the freeway and cracked my bumper in my previous car, I did not fix it with black tape to try and match the body color, I ordered a new bumper and had it painted thus replacing the damaged part of my car the right way rather than the halfassed way. Why should wheel repair be treated any different? If it's a major ding, the wheel may be bent and useless anyways so it'd be better to replace it, if it's a minor scuff save up and have it filled and PC'd or painted to match the rest of the wheels or whatever color you want them (this is assuming the scuff bothers you).

At the end of the day though, it's your car and your money I certainly can't control how you spend it, nor will I be making fun of someone who gets them. I'm merely stating why I think they are a waste and are in poor taste as a repair or as a "protective" measure. I think the same of the leather bras and such that are sometimes seen on cars, so to each their own.

Haters gonna hate!

This thread reflects why i am not highly active on this forum as i am on others and i just pm the people on NAM that i know have the info i need. There is so much negativity flying around between people talking bad about minis and people disrespecting others opinions as if theirs is the only one that is acceptable, it is very unattractive to new comers to the mini community.
