Anybody running 215/40/18 with lowered car?

Just need some feedback on following combo:

Tires: 215/40/18
Wheels: 18x7

Suspension: lowered on (NM) springs or coils...

Any rubbing or issues?

Thanks.

I am running 215/40-18 on 18x7 wheels on my 2006 MCS. My car has the JCW suspension so lowered about 1/2" to 5/8". With the stock 52mm offset wheels, I did not have any rubbing.

I than added 15mm spacers for about 37mm offset (52-15=37). With 37mm offset I had rubbing in the rear outside when the suspension was loaded, such as a bump. Tire would rub slightly on plastic wheel arch and wheel well liner. I trimmed away some of the plastic to eliminate the rub.

Rubbing will depend on the wheel offset and amount lowered.
If you have a R56 I think there is slightly more room in the rear than my R53.

Stupid question but are the 215/40/18 more rubber then a 205/40/18? what area would be bigger or widder?

215 is the width of the tire. 215mm across the tread.
40 is the series of the tire or the ratio of the tire width to sidewall height. Sidewall would be 40% of the width or 215x0.4=86mm.
Thus in general terms a 215 tire is 10mm wider than a 205 tire.
Also a 215/40 (86mm) has a little higher sidewall than a 205/40 (82mm).
The width can vary by manufacuture so a 215 from one manufacture might not be the same as a 215 from another. Check someplace like tirerack.com for actual sizes.
Also the width of the wheel will impact the actual width of the tire when mounted.

215 is wider than 205.

I just bent and cracked my JCW R113's, so after I get the new wheel in, I'm going to swap. Was actually considering something a bit bigger than 215/40/18 on a 18x7 wheel. Anyone know what's the largest I can go? I want the fatty tire look . My clubman isn't lowered and don't have plans to do so.

215/35R18 is the safe way, as we discussed. Thanks for the call!

Alex,

Can you chime in on my original question (regarding lowered Clubmnan S)?

No Clubman but I've ran 215 40 18 with NM Lowering Springs on my '09 JCW and now my '12 JCW Coupe without any rubbing issues. The stance with 215 40's looks great! I ran 215 35's and constantly bent wheels because of the rubber band sidewall.

It doesn't matter if is a clubman, R55/56/57/58/59 are all identical where tire fitment is concerned. What is the offset of the wheels?

I've been on 215/45/18 Continental DWS for a few weeks now. Main reason was so the speedometer shows the correct speed. 09 JCW Clubby on H&R RSS coil overs. Tucking tire and my front bumper air dam thing sits about a 1/2" off the ground at its lowest point.

So basically, slammed and no issues

similar question with some specifics...... does anyone know the offset of an O.Z. Superleggera? If I was to get an O.Z. Superlegerra that is 18x7 , lower my car with H&R springs, can I go with a 215/40/18 without any fitment or even a tiny bit of rubbing issue on an R53 even with passengers??

bowdown, I think you're going to run into trouble trying to get that 17" tire on an 18" rim! In all probability, you meant 215/40x18, right?

bowdown, have you gotten any answers in regards to your question. I have 18x7 OZ Superleggera's and just ordered 215/40/18. I am thinking of returning and switching to 205 as I don't want that fat tire look.
