The limitations are having the wheel offset that too high, that the inner barrel can make contact with suspension components.

Ok, there some limitation involved.
The highest offset I've see work on a 17x9 wheel on a R56 / R55 platform was 30mm because any higher and the make will make contact with the trailing arms.
17x9 @ 30mm offset that provides around some ~13mm of poke.
17x8 @ 30mm on the R56 / R55 is considered flush in the front.

I'm gonna save the time and say let's end this before it starts. His car is amazingly well setup so he can daily drive that and show it at competitions, yet have fun motoring on windy roads when he wants. It's probably much more dynamic than your car.
And imagine this scenario for a second:" What if he doesn't want to track it?" WHHHATTT? I know, your little brain is probably blown Rich.

Narrow minded? Shortsighted? Really?
It's a hard parker... All show no go. (not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what you do), but you can't make the car work at that ride height. And airbags don't have enough spring rate, the tires are stretched on the wheels...
But whatever floats your boat.
